My wife and I have the NTUC Enhanced Incomeshield plans. Mine is the Basic. My wife is the Basic + Assist Rider.

While this is good enough coverage for the two of us, I'm right now looking at something to cover our baby as well.

NTUC says I need to start up a new policy.

I notice Aviva Myshield Plan 2 has free coverage for children.

If I buy a Basic policy for baby then my total annual expenditure for NTUC is $511.

If I switch to Aviva Myshield Plan 2 the expenditure is $429. Baby gets free coverage.

If I choose the Myshield Plus Plan 2 the expenditure goes up to $531. Baby gets free coverage.

With Myshield Plus I get some CI coverage up to $10k.

Is it worth it to switch? Can switch anytime I wonder?

Very new to this insurance thing! :-o

You can switch provided that all of your health are ok. With regards to your question on whether to switch, it is possible to consider that if you are thinking of having another baby along the way. It will make the switch to Aviva more compelling.

Otherwise, please get a rider on top of your existing NTUC plan.

Just compare both plan before taking either plan. If you got kid or intend to increase production then more worth to take aviva. Just compare total cost you pay then you will get the answer.

Which ever company you insured with, remember to buy full rider.

There is no point looking at the premium scale to see how much you will be paying in future as the scale is only meant for premium payable at that particular time.

Premium will go up or down depending on many factors, eg no of insureds, claim ratio, age of insureds.

Insurers are here to make money. More people buy their policies, premiums may go diwn. But if more aged people buy their policies, claims will go up and premiums will rise.

Hence, underwriting future event is like playing lottery. Just like Sing Pools, they will ban hot number. Just like insurers don't welcome sicky people or with existing illness.

This is what I observed after looking through the terms and conditions of both insurance.

-Both covers gamma knife & Novalis radiosurgery
-Both Accident inpatient dental treatment must be performed within 14 days of accident.
-Both pre and post-hospitalisation treatments are 90 days.
-NTUC doesn't specify anything about "Daily In-Hospital Doctor’s Visit" coverage.
-NTUC has up to 90 days (except their Enhanced C plan) community hospital whereas Aviva is 45 days.
-Both covers Congenital Benefits after waiting period of 2 years but Aviva has some coverage if there is Congenital benefit during the waiting period of 2 years.
-For cancer & kidney dialysis treatments, both are more or less the same: Radiotherapy, Chemotherapy, Immunotherapy, Dialysis. (this is one of the important points to look at because generally cancer & kidney dialysis treatment that has very high bills)
-Aviva has lower annual limits but they somehow make it up by having "Extra Inpatient Coverage" for the 5 critical illness. Basically, you annual limits will be $150k higher if you are diagnosed with the 5 CIs.
-Aviva has no Prosthesis benefit
-Aviva has free coverage for up to 4 children but both parents must take up Aviva Myshield

I would say both are fine with me. However, do seek clarification from the insurer on the above difference i visually spotted. Thanks.

Thanks very much for your comparison!

Under NTUC only the main insurance package is payable by Medisave, the Riders are payable by cash.

For Aviva did you note any such separation? It appears that all of the insurance fee is Medisave payable.

All shield riders are paid by cash. Aviva shield rider is called MyShield Plus.

Note that when you switch shield plan, any pre-existing conditions would likely be excluded from the cover of the new shield plan.

Don't have ah bro.

if have, it would be great. One major disadvantage about medishield life is that their surgical benefit is low (i recall $2k).

You tell me. Where got go operation below $2k one. That's why we MUST cover with additional health insurance. Cover basic till B1 also okay. As long as you see "As charged".

What's about medishield life? Does it come with rider which mean we no need pay anything for medical bill?

What do you mean by additional health insurance?

I read up that Medi-life + incomeshield = can go private hospital. If you dun intend to go private hospital, medi-life will be sufficient???

So which to listen?

Hello, depends what incomeshield u buy lor! U can buy incomeshield and still dun pte, but it covers more than medishield life. Medishield life does not cover certain areas which ISP cover, u need to find out more lor, hahaha

Just read NTUC Enhanced Incomeshield or Aviva Myshield carefully. You will see they have 3-4 plans. The most expensive covers private hospital. The second most expensive covers up to A ward of government hospital.

I am advising to get one plan because Medishield Life is not enough to cover your hospital fees. I stated the reason in my previous posts.

FYI, not only Ntuc or Aviva offers this but other insurers such as Great Eastern and AIA offer this too.

I could not find the Extra Inpatient Coverage in the Aviva product documents. Instead they appear to pay a lumpsum of 10k on diagnosis for up to 30 CIs.

Can you please clarify where you found this item?

Under Section D: Special Benefits in MyShield, the main plan.

The $10k CI cover is available in MyShield Plus, the rider.

I agree.

Get the shield plans as Medishield (including its latest Medishield Life) is not sufficient.

It seems that more awareness is needed to inform or educate the public that there are additional shield plans available to supplement the health insurance and that they should be strongly encouraged to get this coverage considering that healthcare costs and bills are not cheap in Singapore.
