Minnasan Ohaiyo!:D

Was actually decided on the resistors data SIM, but my colleague just recently came back from his Kyushu trip told me that he was OK without one. He made use of the free wifi scattered around stations and malls to get by. using the good old maps for direction and do daily preparation of off line google maps or screenshots before he set off for the day. What do you guys think?

Can anyone share the experiences of both with and without the help of a data sim? :)

Data sim is a must if you are not used to the place. It'd save time from the frustration of searching for a free wifi and most probably, they could be in Japanese. Your time there is valuable, so need to spend wisely. ;)

For me it was not always working, especially JR East Free WIFI in Tokyo. JR West in Osaka and Kyoto is more reliable. I imagine it would be kinda hard for me, since I can't read Japanese and sometimes to make sure I took the right train I use hyperdia to check the track number.

One thing to note, if you want to use JR West or Starbucks Free WIFI, sign up before leaving Singapore as they'll need you to access your email in order to get the password :D

U may also want to check japan-wireless.com for their plans. The price is okay...and thus far the coverage and speed is excellent. I'm currently into my second day of using the mifi-lte device btw and only in Tokyo. Will see how is it once we reach more ulu places like kawaguchiko and Hokkaido.

Battery life not bad actually. Could last me the whole day...but I am abit frugal using the wifi. Just simply using maps and hyperdia most of the time. And the occasional surfing of the net while on long train rides. And with the inclided additional battery pack...I guess it should last e whole day for moderate to heavy usage.

No LTe in Disneysea. But the speed is generally still fast for surfing and skype. Just gotten off calls to relatives for their disney duffy bear orders lol. Call quality was clear and crisp.

I found LTE mostly in downtown areas such as Shibuya n Shinjuku. When there is..its fast.

And thus far..my device is connected to 3 devices using concurrently without any significant drop in speed.

Ok tats all for today...gona ssrr disney now.

I can't really say it's faster as I do not really track e speed in SG. But I felt it is faster...as does my travelling companions. Do note that all of us are tethered to the same device tho.

Oh and yesterday we went to the 5th station on Mt Fuji, and was pleasantly surprised to still have good connection up there!
