B550 vs x570

As far as we know b550 mobo uses PCIe Gen3 for chipset link and general purpose lane as compared to x570 that uses PCIe Gen4. Will b550 create a bottleneck as your storage/gpu is pcie gen3? Although there is no evidence or proof to shows that it will slow down the overall performance but what do you think? Is it worth to go for a cheaper b550 or a future proof x570?

There is a slight difference in performance between pcie 3/4 based on reviews but hardly noticeable. That aside, I suspect x570 isn’t that future proof as it’s the last of AM4. Next gen ryzen processors after 5000 series might not work on x570.

If pricing of x570 is around or cheaper than b550, I would go for x570. That being said, I read some post on Reddit about noisy chipset fan on the x570. so that might be a consideration

Sorry my bad, maybe I didnt explain well enough. Lets say in 3 years time most of our components should be moving toward pcei gen4 as a standard already e.g. ssd but you still using b550 mobo which uses pcie gen3 chipset link and general purpose lane. So does that mean you will never reach true pcie gen4 speed? since your bottleneck is still chipset link and general purpose lane stuck at pcie gen3? Sorry, I'm quite noob at hardware so I dont really know how chipset link and general purpose lane will affect the overall performance. But logically if everything pcie 4 but chipset link still pcie 3, does that mean ur speed is still remain pcie 3?? Can some experts step in and explain? I try to search for more info on these but couldn't find anymore. Even youtube videos say there isn't any visible difference between b550 vs x570. If that is the case, is it recommended to buy x570 so when most components will be moving to pcie gen4 in the next few years our mobo will still be able to last as compared to b550 since it's the last am4? Please discuss...

The need for speed is addictive, But u must also think if u actually use it for what purpose too. No point owning a Ferrari which u never get to reach top speed due to your usage and environment.

I guess if u really want to spend the money, u won't be asking these questions too. lol..

generally x570 has pcie 4 on the "extra" pcie slots, 2 pcie 4.0 slots vs 1 pcie 4.0 and 1 pcie 3.0.

ask yourself if you will be using these slots.

if you buying computer for e-peen contest please buy the best x570

Get 570x if u plan to use PCIE4 SSD, as for RTX3000 the difference is only 0.2-2fps according to GameNexus reviews... there is a difference but not noticeable...

real life performance of a PCIE3.0 Samsung Evo can kick the ass out of a PCIE4 NVME SSD... so? my conclusion, current gen PCIE4 SSD are just lemons....

I think normal users will change gpu once while keeping the same cpu and motherboard.
If they change motherboard in 2025. They might do a upgrade for gpu in 2022 or 2023. Then I am sure they will face more bottlenecks because of PCIe 3.

i was shock as well....only looks good on synthetic benchmark and sequential r/w, Real life winrar 500,000 files in 25min vs 90min.... guess who is the winner ?

Wait, i thought for B550 supports PCIE 4.0, just only for the x16 lanes and on the top M.2 Slot?

Cheaper... Both are end of line as no future cpu can use them. B550 supports pcie 4.0 for storage and a 16x slot. Only concern is if you have specialized use like multiple top end graphic cards like 3x3080Ti then you will go with X570 where you mainly crunch video files.

By the time you get hardware that truly uses pcie 4.0(E.g 8k, not SLI/Crossfire aka single card, 100GBe+ networking...), it's time to change mobo. It could be at least 6 years later.

If example u using 1 gen 4 ssd for storage and 1 graphic card 3080 only, b550 should be good enough.

Unless u using a few ssd then maybe x570 is more suitable for u.

If using alot of M.2 remember to check as some motherboard will have the sata disabled

from my recent setup and from the specs
B550 and X570 key difference is the PCIE bandwidth.

NO major "feel the impact" currently between these 2 chipset actually.

But 1 KEY Spec i do see and feel the diff is the M.2 slots
X570 both slots are PCIE Gen4 capable.
B550 only the M.2.1 is PCIE Gen4 capable while the M.2.2 is PCIE GEN3

SO unless you are installing more M.2 SSDs or install more PCIE cards that need that EXTRA Bandwith..... for normal Gamers and regular users, you will not see any limits in the B550
