Hi All,

1st time posting.
If my posting is in anyway inappropriate please advice.

If not, please allow me to vent my anger
I encounter a very bad computer repair man.

he's details
His name is Arthur Yeo.
website: http://arthuryeo.com/arthur20080813/main.asp

I had a problem with my PC. Found him thru google.
Went to see him on my PC problem. My PC will restart by itself when I shut it down.

Told me to put my PC with him for him to trouble shoot.

Later, told me he can't find the problem as it didn't happen when the PC was with him. Then he recommend to install windows 7 (mine was vista) which may help solve. No promise but may help. He also told me I'll need to re-install all my applications because of that so will charge extra if he helps me to install various applications.

I told him to proceed then.

When I was to collect the PC, he then told me, the problem surfaced again. So, Installing Windows 7 didn't help. He said, he tried various means but still can't solve the problem. He told me in his 20 years repairing computer he had never come across the problem my PC is having... He can't solve my problem. So to overcome the problem everytime my PC restarts by itself he say I'll have to go to the bios to do shutdown!

It's like... your car's driver side door can't open... the mechanic went to repair this, change that etc. Then tell you, sorry, driver door still can't open. So, if you want to drive the car, you can go in through the passenger side!

I was very angry.
It's not about paying to install the software applications. I agreed to it. He acted upon my instruction. That's fair. BUT! Why did he only tell me he can't solve the problem after i agreed to pay for all the work done which never solve my PC in the 1st place!?!?!?!
I really wonder if the problem really surface after he install everything.

Then, during my discussion with him. I told him after he install window 7, have to help me put back whatever's in my desktop previously.
When I got it, I had to search for all my desktop items to put it back. He didn't do as promised. When I ask him why he never do as promise, He's reply is, we talk about so many things, how to remember this type of minor details!
If he can't remember his customer's request, then how to trust him to do a good job repairing the PC?
When I questioned him about his work ethics, he shouted at me and say he don't care! To think throughout I never even raise my voice at him!

Just want to share my bad experience with everyone. Hope no one suffered like me. I'm asking him to give me a prove of my payment, I'll keep it as proof.. If need be, I'll go to CASE to lodge a complaint against him!

Please allow me to reveal his details so that no one will have these bad encounter like I did!

Thanks.

Yes you're right. I gave the go ahead. My objective was to solve the problem. My fault too as I didn't questioned much. Now that you guys mentioned, I probably should have these applications unistalled.

I'm angry because he didn't tell me he couldn't solve the problem until its about time for me to collect my CPU. Its frustating. I go to him to solve a problem. He returned it to me after doing everything then say sorry problem can't solve. Then he say this is a problem that no one can solve. In his 20 years repairing PC he has never come across this problem. So is he implying if he can't solve it, no one can???

I just can't accept that this is a problem that cannot be solve!:mad::mad:

To him, I'm being ridiculous, picking on him making things difficult for him. Maybe that's how his industry goes... as in the way that he does things is the norm. But to me, he's utterly irresponsible. :frus::frus::frus:

This problem may be solved if you change motherboard. It is highly likely that the mobo's internal on/off mechanism that is connected to your casing's power button is spoilt.

The repair man told me the problem still there...
I haven't seen it myself yet.

The repairman told me he tried changing the Batt.. no use.
I assume resetting the BIOS should be done too..

So now the problem still there or not? Auto restart after shutdown?
You might wanna try resetting BIOS or changing the CMOS batt if it's flat.

How sad. Maybe that technician was just trying to get money from you. Or worst, He's just pretending. My advise is, first, you should have asked people you know before hiring anyone else. Learn from your friends, relatives etc to have broader understanding of the problem Or, you can ask via yahoo. Well any, hope it will not happen to you again and to others.

Let's not jump to conclusion that the technician in question was being dishonest. No offence, TS, but it's still a story heard only from one side.

The technician can still charge for services rendered thus far, including troubleshooting, regardless of whether the issue was resolved. Unless there was a preceding agreement (in writing) that charges would be waived if problem is not resolved, you cannot fault him.

Charges often vary from different parties and usually coincides with the level of expertise, years of experience and the kinds of techniques used.

Important thing is always know your stuff well. With such a huge repository of information on the internet, knowledge is but a click away.

Thanks.

Did he charge you for the windows 7 cd key, to solve the problem?

If so he wasn't entirely honest with this.. you can install windows 7 for 30 days without activation. during that 30 days you can test if windows 7 will solve your problem.

I got a feeling it might be your hard disk problem. do a DFT on your hard disk.

if you want you can just drop it by my house and I will try to help you.. I have a lot of old components to clear and give away~
