I am thinking of getting jewellery in BKK, but visa/mc surcharges are around 3%, and trust card ATM withdrawal is inefficient.

what’s an effective way of getting around 200k THB in BKK? I prefer withdrawing there instead of bringing SGD there to change…

Most effective I would say is withdraw and change here, then bring over the old fashioned way.
Since you are looking to change a more than usual amount of money, believe local MC can provide better rates. BKK MC probably offer good rates too with such amount.
But you run the risk of being stopped by BKK customs and questioned or fine if found.

Otherwise, is transfer to someone that is trustable with Thai bank account then withdraw.
But exchange rate will be an issue then.

Thanks! I read that only amounts above 20k USD need to be declared at customs.

But I quite hesitant on bringing 8k SGD in cash over….

Well, it's Thailand and you never know what they want.
Especially nowadays where the rules are ever changing, or perhaps it's always changing for Thailand. :s13:

And yes, understandable that carrying so much cash around isn't great, with the risk of losing it and safety.

Yah. Also, bring cash over liao, there will be invisible pressure to just buy the piece of jewellery (coz bring cash back very turn off).

if can withdraw there after a nice jewellery deal comes along, best….

23K gold jewellery quite good price there…

Have a good meal with the good deal that you are going to have, then the rest should not be a lot left liao. :s13:
