Hi all

When doing a 90 degrees left turn in a tight Carr park and your rear door banged the car park wall, what will you do?

Stop immediately and reverse? Or carrying on moving forward and get it over with keeping fingers crossed that the damage is kept to a minimal.

TIA.

As soon as you hit, don't do anything. Stop, and reverse without turning your steering wheel. After your car body clears the wall then re-position your car and re-make the turn

Stop and reverse. Cause cars are front wheel steering. So if you continue to move, you will get closer to the wall and your door GG...... Unless you plan to change your door....

reverse a bit, turn the wheel another direction, move forward a bit, then turn the wheel to the intended direction.

it happened to me once at the GV Yishun carpark exit. part of my fault as well, as i was not paying attention and was bothered by something else that day. that exit is a sh!t exit. Avoid it if possible.

damage to repair the big dent on the door: 340.

Lesson learnt: try to be wide as much as possible. even if you hit the front on your bumper, it is better than damaging the door. the Bumper repair is cheaper.

Hi Warr

Thanks for sharing. In your Yiushun incident, did you reverse or carrying on that resulted in the dent?

TIA.

tried carrying on, but it would make it worse. i think the damage is already done when I heard the bang sound. so reversed a bit. then moved out.
if u already hit the wall, u would make it worse if u move forward.
risk the bumper instead of the door.

Don't quite understand your first statement. So you carried on moving forward that time or immediately reversed after hearing the bang sound?

Both. Forwarded first a bit, but heard the squeezing sound, then reversed, and moved on .

Once you make contact with the object, carrying on will only deepen the 'wound' on the car.
as previously suggested, best is to reverse in the same angle in which you moved forward previously. Once no more in contact with the object, steer away from it and go forward. Once clear then resume your intending turning angle.
