My Thai friends would go in a group to do merit. They rent a van and go around 5 to 7 temples one weekend (Sat or Sun).

Maybe you can gather people here to do this : HWZ-er Merit-making Meetup

Looking for temple recommendations, and each temple, their procedure to pray and stuff like that...

like e.g you go cai shen ye temple pray wealth, yue lao pray for love, and stuff like that, for thai temples, when we pray can we pray for stuff like that ? would be disrespectful if i were to go to a temple and pray for work or health or anything without knowing what the temple is about.

Also, just wanna see everyone's experience and all.

P.S : For attire, is shorts/berms/slippers okay? will it be disrespectful ?

All rounder purpose, any temples will do.

a. Go to the ubosot and offer your prayers and offerings to Buddha. Typical offerings include 3 joss sticks, 1 candle and jasmine/lotus flowers. You light up the candle and place on the candle holders. Then light up your joss sticks and pray to Buddha holding together with the flowers. Once you are done with your prayers, place your joss sticks on incense holder and flowers where you see people place.

b. After that, you can do merit making by offering daily necessities to monks. Recite katha ''namo tassa'' 3 times and repeat after the monk whatever he recites. After it is done, he will bless you by sprinkling holy water on you. Next part is the transfer of merits. While the monk is chanting, you pour the bottle of water into a bowl. In you mind, just think of those whom you want to share the merits to. Parents, yourself, your ancestors and all sentient beings. Once it is done, pour the water to any plants nearby.

c. Another common way of merit-making is alms givings. Offering food to monks in the morning during their alms collection. Usually in local markets.

Just do everything with respect and faith. You be fine. Berms and slippers is ok in most temples except Wat Phra Kaew. You will have to remove your footwear before entering any ubosot. For more in-depth info/background on procedures and temple recommendations etc, you can go to AF forum.

Chok dee and heng heng ;)

Would be returning to 4 face buddha to offer a dance. Made a promise during the last trip. Although things did not turn out better, in fact worse off, but felt the need to keep the promise.

What time does the Erawan Shrine closes? Will be arriving at BKK late and next day we are rushing off to Hua Hin early. Had to ask here as google search revealed my different opening/closing hours...

I interested.. drop u a pm...

I interested.. drop u a pm...

This weekend I am going to donate monk robes.... Traditionally this is the only time of the year after the rain retreat where monks can receive robes and the ceremony is called Katina.

Usually every year, some of my SG family and friends will ask me to donate on their behalf since they are not in Thailand or time constraints to visit any local temple in SG.

Those who are in Thailand, can pm me if you wish to join me in this merit making event. Those not in Thailand but wish to also donate robes to the sangha community can pm me to see how we can work things out.

Two ways to donate robes, either you buy robes from shop or temples and donate to the monks or you give a donation of any amount.

You need not be in Thailand to do this, visit any local Thai Temples, and tell the temple assistant you would like to donate robes to monks.

May all be well, happy and pleased. :)
