Hahahaha! Well, she got quite a few single friends. :)

Retire in Issan, I am not sure. The most likely places that I may consider is Khon Kaen, Chiangmai or Hua Hin because of the accessibility to BKK (if we are to travel) and because we have friends/relatives living in those areas.

Yup, the chanote (land deed) is under her name. I could buy as well, but I have to register it under my Thai company, which is too much of a hassle.

Driving in Issan is a blast, but always err on caution especially during festive season. The last "7 Dangerous Days", because of Xmas & New Year, (the Thai media calls it that) cost some 200+ lives and about 2,000 accidents, and quite a lot of them is because of alcohol.

In Issan, I prefer Khon Kaen, because I know the place! Hahaha! Korat, if you want to party hard.

And why are you so interested in Issan? If you don't mind me asking?

Oh i'm sorry. The shop name is DTAC. Actually, all 3 telecom companies, AIS, DTAC & True have shops on the 1st floor of the airport. But I chose DTAC because it was closest to me, the shop personnel speaks good English and they offer the SIM card in both micro-sim and normal sim card formats, there is no need for any cutting services. The shop personnel will also help you insert the sim card and test it out in front of you.

I bought the micro-sim for 99baht and topped up another 500baht. Used the iPad everyday for 2wks in my wife's hometown in the northeast province and in BKK and there was no issues at all. Remember, there is no 3G so Internet can be a bit slow.

Now, I have a BKK micro-sim card sitting at home till my next BKK trip! :s22:

99b just for the card, and 500b can used for how long

share ur experience please... bangkok taxi generally are good and cheap... if u think they are bad, try vietnam.. =.=

flagged down a pink cab along the road. the driver insisted he bring me to some jewellers. i refused, he drove on and asked me to alight at a random place which has no skytrains and almost impossible to flag any cabs.

I haven't a clue as to how long I had left because the iPad doesn't prompt me, unlike the iPhone. But I used my iPad everyday for 2wks and it still works. :)

Btw, unlike the iPad, if you are using a thai pre-paid sim card, you can go to any 7-11 store and purchase the top-up card.

What my wife does is that instead of going through the hassle of keying the code into the phone, she would ask the 7-11 staff to do it by giving them her handphone number and the 7-11 staff would top it up for her and an SMS will show up on her phone. Easy! No need to worry about wrong key code, or finding the english translation etc...

Yup, its still considered "winter"... :)

But in BKK, it is usually cooling but not cold. Bring a long sleeve pullover and you are good.

while i am backpacking in Issan.. i got to make friend with a farang whom just got married. He actually told me there is a legal work around..

land deed can only be under ur wife, however you can get a lawyer to draft a leasing agreement that the land is leased to you for the rest of your life (recently changed, used to be 20yrs or something). He told me, that leasing agreement works prefect for him. In the event, of divorce or his wife cheats on him, he can take out the agreement and repossess the land based on the leasing agreement for the rest of his life. As he wants to have kids, so his kids at the end will inherit the land which is what he wanted anyway.

you are right.. korat is definitely for partying.. that;s why korat is always my last stop from issan. I being to KK, udon, ubon, nong kai, buriram and surin. I'm not a nightlife person, but almost U-Bar can be found in all issan town.

cont later..busy.. :(

Yup, thanks for the tip. In actual fact, my wife has the chanote and I have the Nor Sor 3, which entitles me to the use of the land, ala the "leasing agreement" that you have mentioned. :)

Haha, talking about U-Bar... my wife & brother have the crew shirts... They have been to U-Bar so many times in KKC. :) There is a U-Bar in Korat, besides Pegasus Motel. Now that is a "fun" motel to be in. ;)

I went to Khon Kaen recently for 2nd time, it is not bad. Got city and countryside. Can be quite cold during winter time. :s13:

I took tiger to BKK 2 weeks ago, they didn't delay and departed on time.

For taxis, take the green-yellow one. Those are government taxis. No problems with them. Cheapest meter i've taken too.
