thanks for the review !! :)
how is the screen contrast ?

It's definitely sufficient. I know some express concerns about the diluting effect of the screen protector. I haven't used another reader so I can't comment yet. My friend will be getting his Kindle Touch this Saturday so then I will be able to compare them side-by-side.

I'm more interested to find out how I will perceive the device after the honeymoon period, though. So do take my previous post with a pinch of salt.

Day 3. Still in honeymoon.

I still love the Nook, still reading where- and whenever I can. On the bus, the train, when I'm eating at the pantry. It's just wonderfully suited for short reading periods - no need to lug a book around, no need to flip here and there to get to the page.

I have used e-ink reader since their 1st gen screen (latest is kindle keyboard). The difference in screen contrast (and page turning speed) since then to current tech really do make a big difference in reading experience.
Please update me with your side by side screen comparison.
Thank you. and enjoy your reader :)

I was a user of Nook Colour and I just gotten a Kindle Keyboard from my friend. Without a doubt, eInk readers are the best for reading books. Comfortable display that doesn't cause fatigue on the eyes.

Sure I will.

Page turning on this is fast. Real fast.

The battery however isn't holding up as advertised, I fear. It's day three, and I'm down to 78% already. Granted I read more than the amount stated per day, but I don't think I did by that much (20% 3 days, 100% 15 days compared to 60 days advertised).

e-ink battery life actually depends on how many page turn you do. Not really depend on time. the advertised 2 months (no light) is just approximation of how many page turn you do per day.

using the light will also drastically consume more power. (only rated 1 month when using light. and only 30 minutes/day. if you use 1 hour/day than 15 day...) if you turn page more than what B&N estimates in 30 minutes time, then your battery life will also be less. and so on..

there is also possibility that the battery indicator calibration is still going on, should stabilize after several charging cycle. no need to worry so much :)

Yes it's definitely the calibration of the indicator. It bounced back to 57% from 48% yesterday.

Was discussing with my friend about how the eReader is stealing all my attention and my iPod is feeling really lonely. Seems like I'm only 12.5% through the honeymoon period heh.

Yea, my friend unboxed his Kindle Touch today. There was a gathering at another friend's place, and I managed to do a A/B of the text contrasts (unfortch I didn't get a picture of that).

Side-by-side, the Kindle Touch does look more contrasty (texts were darker by ~20%) and I was admittedly a little jealous, with my grey Nook texts. But that jealousy was totally absent when I was reading on my way home on the train.

Bottom-line, as long as they are not side-by-side, the NSTwGL is definitely sufficient in contrast to enable pleasant and easy reading. Only when compared next to each other will the extra oomph in the Kindle's text make you feel a lil inferior. The difference is rather significant (again only when side-by-side), but does not result in usability issues.

Buying Magazines to read on NOOK from B&N in SG

Hello!

I've just gotten my hands on a nook recently and I've been trying to subscribe to magazines from B&N. I've tried the hotspot shield method and successfully subscribed to TIME magazine online but I can't seem to get it to download onto my NOOK :(

Any one tried and found a way to download magazines onto their nook? Please help!

The shipping address should be the comgateway add given to you. If you're using your local credit card, then billing address should be for that card even if it's a Singapore address.

Been almost a month!

A few more quirks

1. If the word you wanna highlight is split into two hyphenated parts at the end of one row and the start of the next, you can't.

2. If you want to highlight more than a word near the bottom of the screen, you can't, because the menu pops up as soon as one word is selected.

The only work around is to change the font size so that the words are repositioned.

I don't see why you can't select a split word. As for (2), if you highlight near the bottom, the menu should appear at the top of the screen instead.

Also, I do find myself annotating and highlighting quite a bit. Would be AWESOME if B&N or some third party developer (rooted Nook) comes up with an export feature.

kobo apps on rooted nook

Hi, anyone manage to get kobo apps running on rooted nook? I got it installed, but when trying to open the books for reading. It seems to be opening, but after a few second, it went back to the main books selection screen.

Thanks.

Hi guys,

Noob question inc.
Seeing as the nook doesnt ship directly to singapore, are singaporean ip addresses allowed to purchase ebooks/periodicals from the B&N store?

If no, what are the alternative sources from which nook users can get their ebooks/periodical subscriptions from?

I'm thinking of buying a nook, but am afraid that my enjoyment of the product will be limited by the choice of content I am able to get my hands on.

Please advise. Thank you in advanced.
