Hi all,

I intend to build a basic gaming rig (mainly gaming, video editing(occassionaly))


Here are the following hardware considered to use:-

1) Asrock B75 Pro3M + i5 3570
2) Palit GT640 2GB DDR3
3) Cooler Master 620 M2 Slient Pro
4) Kingston 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 4GB x 2pcs
5) Seagate 2TB 32MB Sata x 2pcs


Kindly give some advices.

I recommend you get AMD APU for basic gaming

no psu? no ssd? SSD is a must-have now. for faster start-up

What is your budget? Do you need OS and other peripherals? What games do you play and at what resolution?

Currently playing dragonnest. I also intend to play D&D.

CPU & Mobo: i5-3450 & Asrock B75M-DGS @ $291
ODD: Samsung DVD RW @ $22
GPU: Leaktek GTX 650 Ti @ $199
Case: Generic ATX case @ $20
PSU: FSP Raider 450W @ $68

Total: $603
Buy and build at Tradepac.

IMO, GT640 and below gpu are not good enough for gaming. Given your budget, for Nvidia lower tier gaming gpu, you should look at least GTX 650 Ti. For AMD, can consider 7770 and above.

You mean AMD or Intel. Asrock sells motherboards for either brand's processors.

If you've got enough money and want to at least manage to game on medium in the latest graphically-demanding games, Intel i3 and above + a dedicated card like the GTX 650 Ti / HD7770 is the way to go. Otherwise just go for an AMD APU, which can be significantly cheaper and has good integrated graphics.

Do keep in mind going AMD generally means your RAM latency timings (the CL9/10/11 thingys; the lower the better) and frequencies actually make a difference, so you'll want to get better RAM.

Yes. SSD will make a huge difference to load times. But may blow your budget. Worth it if you can stretch.

IMO, 2 ram slots is enough your usage. 8GB is more than enough for gaming.

So i think minus the ODD[optical disk drive] and get the SSD,
