Hi there, I just bought the MSI GP62 6GF Leopard pro laptop at funan mall singapore. When i first switched on the laptop, the percentage battery was 96 percent. Then it dropped to 91 percent in just 10 mins. I was not even playing any game at that moment but just installing new stuffs. But then i tried out my game and less than half an hour , it dropped to 7 percent. I got shocked. So maybe i need to charge for at least 8 hours. i charged back my laptop and it was all good at 100%. Then at night, i played my game again. from 96% just entering my game Main Menu, i minimized my game and checked my battery it dropped to 87%. Even when i did not do anything, it will drop from 48% to 30%. I did lower my brightness and also choose battery save option but there are no difference.

May i know how long is the battery life of my laptop model? The salesperson said to me that my laptop can last for 4-5 hours with battery (just normal web browsing, watching videos and music) and 2hrs+ for gaming without battery but it doesnt look like it. My laptop battery lasted up to probably 3 hours or less at least without gaming.. When gaming with battery without charger, it can last up to half an hour with games like The Witcher 3, CSGO, Dota, Euro Truck Simulator, Fifa 16. It will dropped drastically till like 10% to 5% in just 30-40mins. It will be quite troublesome if i have to keep my laptop charging every 30 mins since its been said that i need not to have to plug in my Adapter to play my game.

I am new in Laptop. This laptop i bought was at 1.9k. So im not sure how laptop will work but ive been asking my friend, some say they lasted for 4-5 hours and did not drain drastically such as mine. Idk if i should be worry or not.

Some question i would like to ask,

- Do i have to charge my laptop for at least 8 or 12 hours to have a max battery cap and also prevent my battery from draining fast?

- In terms of gaming, do i have to plug in my Power AC Adapter and charge in order to play my games everytime?

- Will it cause damage if i charge my laptop while playing game or this is normal?

My specs
I7 6700HQ 2.6ghz
16GB ram DDR4
Nvidia Geforce GTX960m
128SSD/1TB HDD/

i hope to have as many replies as possible.

Thanks everyone!

It does come off to me as slightly weird but it has to depend on the settings that you are playing at too - and a variety of other factors such as fan speed, screen brightness, keyboard lighting etc - maybe you could fill us in on more details.

How is the battery usage in non gaming related tasks - word document processing / video watching? Claimed battery life vs actual battery life is always quite a huge difference.

Is the battery a inbuilt battery or a user replaceable battery?
You can bring it down to the service ctr to check it out and get a better peace of mind. :)

Cheers

Maybe you can call MSI Singapore up.
Alternatively, Facebook Message them

I'll be heading to funan today afternoon. Jus wanna know, is it a normal thing or its something odd about the battery?

I can't tell for certain, sorry.
I can only say that gaming laptops do drain significantly more juice.
On top of that, you have a GTX and a Quad core i7 as well - leading to more drain and consequently more heat produced.

Calibrate the battery using the msi software. Under start type battery, most likely it will pop up.

i have same spec as yours. but my laptop is acer Nitro v15. My battery last about 2 hours plus. I think it is normal for gaming laptop. For gaming we dont need long battery life though..

I dont think a gaming laptop can last for 4-5 hours of gaming. Unless it is very top end..

First day for new laptop should charge at least 8 hours.

that seem normal. gaming pc doesn't have that great battery life unless it weight a ton.

Download Battery Monitor software

Show us the results here.... :)

Gaming PC battery life typically last from 1 hr to 2.5 hours. That is rather common.

If the battery drops rather drastically for the first part, then do a calibration.
If it does not help, download the above software and check out its Max capacity and design capacity. Max capacity should be same or higher than design capacity. If it is lower, means it is starting to detoriate already. But it is also common for batteries to be around 5% lower than design capacity even when new. :)
