Just bought iphone 5 black 64 gb.

I had a full charge since around 8am in the morning, but by 1pm it was just 34% battery life left.

I left LTE switched on, WIFI off, personal hotspot off. But I left some apps running in the background. Brightness just slightly under half.

Is this the kind of battery life to expect from the iphone 5? :s11:

I just got my 32gb iPhone 5 last weekend and am quite impressed with its battery life on iOS 6.1.3.
Lasted me 24 hours of standby with constant web surfing and whatsapp and still had about 30% left. LTE on throughout and I didn't even bother to clear apps in the background.
Maybe Ts can let battery drain and charge till full to recalibrate it and try

It's always good to do a batt calibration about once a mth, that's what I do for my iPad and MBP too.

I've a habit of clearing closed apps but according to Apple is unnecessary.

iOS: Understanding multitasking

Multitasking in iOS allows you to switch instantly between apps and to resume an app. When you return to an app, you can pick up right where you left off. Multitasking doesn't slow down the performance of the foreground app or drain battery life unnecessarily.

Double-clicking the Home button displays a list of recently used apps. These apps are not necessarily actively in use, open, or taking up system resources. They will instantly launch when you return to them. Certain tasks or services can continue to run in the background. You can distinguish most of these by checking the status bar:

Location Services / GPS: When in use, the icon appears in the status bar. If an app is using location services, you can pause this service within the app.
Note: You can view a list of apps that recently used location services in Settings > Location Services.
Audio playback: When listening to music or other audio sources, the icon appears in the status bar. If an app is using playback, you can pause or stop playback from within the app. You don't need to close or quit the application.
iTunes syncing: When the icon appears in the status bar, the device is tethered or wirelessly syncing with iTunes.
Network activity: When the icon appears in the status bar, network activity is occuring. The network-activity indicator will appear only for the following features or activities, when you're using the corresponding app:
Photo Stream uploads and downloads
Regular application downloads from the App Store
Automatic downloads (music, books, and applications)
iTunes Match downloads
Checking email
iCloud restores
Some third-party apps may also use the icon to show an active process.

Voice over IP (VoIP): A double-height status bar will appear when you leave the primary VoIP app, such as Skype.

wow 24 hours standby. impressive. I used to get 18 hours at best previously but for some unknown reason my batt life has been really poor recently. 30% left and my usage is 3 hours and standby 12 hours. I have drained my battery and restored it recently but didn't help. Is it possible to exchange it with my telco?

After going through 3 iPhone 5 exchanges from Starhub I've come to the conclusion it's impossible to have good battery life if you are on cellular data, be it 3G or LTE, and that Apple overstated their usage estimates. People who claims to have very good battery life are either on wifi most of the time or is satisfied with their usage time or don't know about previous iPhones exceptional standby or usage times on cellular.

All four iPhone 5s (5 if I count the one I bought for my dad) I've used exhibit the same behaviour. As long as you are on cellular data the battery drains like crazy, one hour of standby will drain at least 4-5%, compared to at most 1-2% on my iphone 4. Web surfing or normal usage will drain 1% every 2 plus minutes, which is way worst than my iPhone 4. Some times when I stream videos the counter drops multiple percentage points at one go. However once I turn off cellular data and only use wifi, the battery life improved tremendously, to the point it can rival my iPad in usage time.

Something is wrong with the cellular antenna hardware, or if it's by design then Apple did false advertising. Either way we lose.

Battery life will depend also largely on the strength of the coverage.

Same for every phone, if it has to keep switching between GPRS/3G/LTE or find a signal, battery life drains and phone heats up.

TS, u may wanna try the below.

1) Disable push notifications totally.
2) Lower your screen brightness. (Its a sharp retina display, I mean why use max brightness or mid...? I use 30% and find it overglaring.

I set auto brightness to 'on' for my 4S and default, it's just around 20%.

I recommend setting brightness to 20-25%, auto brightness off. Saved my friend 4 hours of battery on a typical day when I found he set it to 75% brightness. If you notice how phones drain battery (using battery monitoring apps on Andriod), it is usually the screen that uses up about 70% of the charge on an average use.

I finally experience bro/sis about battery draining. My iphone 5 drain battery 2%-3% every 5min. Did a restore, DFU restore, close background apps, disabled the time update, disabled the notification, battery fully drain and charge.....etc, battery still the draining like water.

After 4 day of trying, cannot tong already, went to m1 and did a 1 to 1 exchange. While the service guy just go to setting and return to home, unbelievable3% gone. While he was processing my exchange, he told me using the LTE on the iPhone, can only last for 6hours the most. I told the guy that apple promise a 10h phone right? He said not in the real world.
While doing the restoration, I did a google search and found that so many people been suffering LTE battery drain problem issue. I guess it very common till apple really come with a fix. While I continue using 3G.

saw the website and try on my ip5 6.1.3 & it works for me. Phone able to standby for more then 14H. Yesterday was jamming on the road, so just use the LTE for 3 hours and from 100% to 60% watching apple movie trailers, VEVO, youtube and facebook. Used up about 400MB. Some of the instruction didnt really set. But the reseting of the network and resting the phone setting works.

Not yet try on 6.1.4 If those tried, can give some feedback.

Solution for battery issues without "set up as new iPhone" - MacRumors Forums

Objective: hit at least 9 and a half hours of usage. Without setting up as new iPhone
***SOLUTION***
1. DFU restore your iPhone 5 to 6.0.1. You HAVE to do a DFU restore. This is especially so if you updated through the wireless updater in ios. (Don't be lazy)
2. Restore from your favourite back up
3. In Settings>General>Reset, Erase Network Settings. Phone will reboot.
4. In Settings>General>Reset, Erase All Settings. Phone will reboot.
5. Set email notifications to every Hour
6. Turn off auto brightness and set to 25% to 35%. *I doubt anything more will be comfortable, but its really up to you. Just try to keep it as low as possible*
7. In Settings>Privacy>Location Services>System Services, turn off "genius for apps" & "location based iAds"
8. In Settings>General>Date & Time, turn off "Set Automatically"
9. In iCloud, turn passbook off. *optional if you actually use passbook*
10. It is important that you maintain these settings in the first use immediately after these changes. After the first 100% to 0% use to see if the changes actually worked, you can just use your phone and find out which app/perferred setting actually drains battery.
