One of my laptop is permanently connected to AC and i will probably only need the battery when I try to resell the laptop.

I know the optimal way is to remove the battery and recharge it to 40% every few weeks/months, but I do not want to go through the hassle of that every few weeks/months for so little benefit (laptop resale value is pretty low).

Should I just leave the battery within the laptop in this case?

If you can remove the battery, have it at around 50% state then keep it elsewhere not attached to the laptop and forget about it. Its the best compromise and you don't have to hassle yourself.
