Hey guys, spent 3 months in tekong and about to pop in a few weeks and im considering going to scs and becoming a bmt instructor. Some said that tekong specs are normally those ranked lowest from their peer appraisal in command school and some said that they post you there if you're able to teach, any advice on that?

first of all, for selection of posting, there are many factors

the various arms come in turns to select the people they need and what they will see is your scores during your training, which will consist of generally knowledge, leadership, teamwork, etc etc.

of cos, if you show a ability to lead or instruct others will earn you a recommendation to be instructor but not necessary BMT.

peer appraisal is a factor but i doubt they will pick the lowest score as this means you are not a likeable person.

to many people, the whole process would look like a random draw. there are many theories about this and that but you have to know, nobody knows for sure anyone's actual score for training or peer appraisal. only the selectors know and like any job interview, i'm sure they will not purposely pick based on the lowest score of any factor.

for you. get into SCS first.

Life sux there don't become a spec there

exactly, dun be a spec there. unless u talking abt being SME..then still not that bad. coyline spec seems more like recruit's nanny than a BMT sgt. Things u learn in SCS all gone to waste.
and the selection is actually random. I know of people who are silver bayonet holders and posted back to tekong as bmt instructor, doesnt means u must be damn cui to be back to tekong.;)

so now......just wait for ur posting bah.:s8:

speculative la

my result not so good in foundation term in SCS...

where did I end up?

Active infantry unit, scout platoon...

So I dun believe the rumors at all lol...

In normal cases... 1/3 of the cadets who passed foundation will go infantry... and only about less than 50% will end up in Tekong (the others will go active units, some reconnaissance units and Guards)

there are a lot of factors that will affect your postings...

the MAPAS test that you do before enlistment will affect it.

the results of the various test you did during BMT/SISPEC/OCS will also affect it.

your enlistment date will also affect it cos some units only have 1 intake per year.

even your race, religion, etc will affect it.

and yes, express interest does play a part but the thing will express interest is that if you express interest in being a sniper but you are a bobo shooter then you are not going to get in. you need to have the skill set to back your express interest.

for now just think about getting into SISPEC, survive BSLC and make it to ASLC.

to become a BMT instructor means being infantry spec by vocation and the requirements of being an infantry spec include passing your SOC.

if i remember correct, BMT SOC consist of a 50m run down before the low wall, followed by a few meters after the low ramp.

SOC after BMT consist of a full run down, meaning 800m run down before hitting the low wall, followed by another 700m run after the low ramp.

after that the initial 800m run down, not many people still got energy left to jump up that wall. :s13:

btw, BMT is not the only place where you have NSF as instructors. the training institute of every vocation has a small of NSF instructors.

there are also some operational units that double as "training institute", so the commanders there manage their own men while concurrently acting as instructors whenever there are trainees.

so if you are really interested in being an instructor, BMT is not the only place.

Get posted to scs then talk...

And why the hell you would want to go through aslc (I think it is now called infantry pro term) just to be tekong spec?
