Hello all,

I am interested in purchasing Android Auto or Carplay enabled head unit, I have searched threads here but some are quite old dating back almost 2 years old. Now that it is 2019 which are the best head units out there available? I don't mind not having Android Auto but Carplay is more important as my daily driver is an iPhone.

I am looking at Sony XAV-AX100 and Z5150BT Pioneer. Any bros care to share their experiences with such head units?

Thanks so much. :)

I'm using atoto a6 pro, $200 from carousell. Full android based unit with decent specs. Can do a search, reviews on YouTube are pretty good as well.

There is another connection app called easy connection which works for both iPhone/android.

I am using avh-z5150bt.
Specs and manual can see from here:
https://www.pioneer.com.au/shop/car/avh-z5150bt

A bit of my review here:
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...-z2150bt-nakamichi-na3610-w-maps-5976776.html

I'm terrible at writing reviews, but if you have specific questions, I can try to answer. It supports both Android Auto and also Apple Carplay.

Also, since I only used the DVD player like once, for my next car, I am probably going to get an Android HU with the largest screen possible (10", maybe 12") and no DVD player. Or even some adapter/DIY setup which would allow me to plugin a tablet.

Functions that I would look for:
- ability to connect to reverse cam,
- aux input for 360 panoramic cam if you intend to ever get 1,
- ability to use audio control on steering wheel, esp the button to activate google/siri voice command
- blue tooth interface (with phone for handsfree calls, for connecting to blue tooth OBD and installing Torque, connecting to 2ch dash cam)
- usb port to plug-in an SD card to extract dash cam video

Other extra functions
- provide wifi hotspot
- gps tracking of where my car is
- if I can use tablet, should preferably be detachable

Just searched it up, sounds like a good deal for a very low price. Does it stay to it's words of frequent software updates? Also does it have the ability to sync with the buttons on steering wheel?

I am leaning towards this or the Z2050. Which one do you use more Android Auto or Apple Carplay? Any features that it doesn't have that bugs you everyday when using it?

No issue with steering controls for my car, updates wise support is good. Can download the firmware on their website and then sideload it, pretty easy as well.

If you r on a budget, skip the motion detection a6 pro, I disabled mine anyway.

No bugs so far. For me I mainly use Google maps for navigation, news apps to stream news videos otw to work. I don't even use it to connect to my phone though, if need be can connect via bluetooth as well.

Music wise I just load them into sd card and pop it into the unit. You basically have a fully functional android tablet and all you need to do is tether internet from your phone. I find that more functional and efficient that mirroring my phone to the unit.

Drive safe!

Wah this looks good though. I might go for this, none on Carousell so far but seen one on AliExpress for quite a good price. Thanks for the recommendation!

any units suitable for Mazda 3 2018 Basic?

i know got MZ connect but like to explore other options if have.
would prefer feature rich (like what orphan mention above) and as future proof as possible, since using it for almost next 9+ yrs

MZDConnect + CarPlay is the best option for Mazda.

MZDConnect + CarPlay is the best option for Mazda.

but i not iphone user leh. using Samsung note...

then mzconnect the screen not touch screen right? then when driving cannot use? then cannot play video etc?

i mean mzdconnect about $1000 odd, then the most expensive option (pioneer) got wireless android auto all these.
so if i'm spending $1000, i should go for the most feature rich? if not, then i might as well go for the most value for $?

only thing is the form factor of mazda, like a lot of headunits cannot fit?

hi all,

anyone interested in getting an Android ATC headunit for your car. I'm intending to get an android unit as i bought a standard mazda 2 and the stock player doesn't even bluetooth.

Aestmod Android ATC seems quite reliable, and there's a $100 off the headunit and waived installation of $80 if can get another car to install.

can google aestmod and read up first ba.

Please do pm me if any of you are interested

alternatively theres an android headunit from Tong Lee Wee but i'm still quite undecided...

TS u got your head unit already? I too am considering a new head unit for myself. currently using a single-din head unit.

am considering the pioneer 5250 or android head unit.

googled and found out atoto a6 pro is only 2gb ram.

found another brand called JOYING that is 4gb ram but slightly more exp.

anyone using JOYING head unit here? any reviews on them?

Joying reviews are good too. As a head unit, why do you need so much ram?

As long as it's reasonably priced, can load maps/music/radio/Android play that's about it.

thanks for replying. my installer told me to get a 4gb ram minimum if im going to get a android unit. he says 2gb ram will have lag. im not sure as i have not tried android head unit before.

I would say go for reputable brands (pioneer/sony/alphine...etc) if its a new car and you wanna have less worries of failure. If buy first hand sure got warranty (in case of any hardware fault). Just my 2cents 😁

Just like buying a hand phone.

Another installer also told me don't touch those China made Android units and started selling me pioneer/Sony blahblah.

Depends on how much $$ you have to burn. You can even buy a high end tablet and mod it into a head unit!

alright man. thanks alot for your inputs. :)
