Best data roaming telco

Hi,
I've been with M1 for 20yrs and last time their data passport that allows me to use UNLIMITED data while oversea from my monthly bundle is consider the best for that time. But I think recently they revised to cap at 10GB data roaming monthly with a higher monthly data passport fee.

I am thinking of porting my number out (for other reasons), and looking for a telco that can offer the best data roaming plan.

Anyone have anything to share on this?

The answer to this question depends on your use case.

- How much data do you need in Singapore?
- How much roaming data do you actually need?
- Where do you need to roam?

the 10GB data roam for the highest tier plan of $25 is almost equivalent to M1... the extra 2+2GB for MY and TH is only for limited time. The rest of the plan, their data roam data is almost the same as other telco...hmmm... this can be an alternative to M1.

My monthly local data usage barely exceed 10GB, but the pathetic 1-2GB oversea data roam for a month is quite pathetic if we are going for a long or a few trips within a month with lots of FB/IG posting , road navigation, google maps...etc
Guess there's no one size fits all plan. It seems M1 and TPG offers the highest monthly data roaming of 10GB.

If you want to look at it in terms of pure numbers, both StarHub & Singtel offer add-ons that provide unlimited roaming data. It's also prohibitively expensive.

If you use about 10GB of data a month, I really don't see how you could be using 10GB of roaming data every month. You can't be travelling the whole month & Google maps & navigation really doesn't use a lot of data.

But if you are sure you need the 10GB, then TPG is probably your best bet.

Singtel XO Plus 288 plan comes with 30GB of roaming data monthly

I went into TPG website.... their website is like... erh....not sure how to describe it..... doesn't looks like some "legit" website... not much explanation.... ok I click on sign up for the super roam...."no connection to server" boink! Can I trust this operator when their website is not even functioning well 🤔

I’ve used the most basic TPG plan in JB for a few days and the network there is fine. Anyone on their Superroam and have experiences on the network in other countries?

Also looking for users for TPG's SuperRoam to comment, especially further overseas countries like USA. TIA.

My friend is using SIMBA SuperRoam in USA right now, connected to AT&T. Never hear any complaints. Connected to Orange France carrier profile, so data is routed through Europe (FR) instead of Asia (SG). This is a good move since it reduces latency drastically.

When transit through Japan, took some time to connect to KDDI. Seems to be because they have too many MCC/MNC but all show KDDI when manual selection, so it took quite some time to figure out which one to connect to. Other than that, seems ok, but cannot comment on connectivity everywhere since they were in the airport for a transit flight.

Is he able to make and receive calls on his TPG line in USA?

Anyone have Indonesia and Thailand roaming experience on TPG? My previous Malaysia and Indonesia roaming experience was horrible. Can see they have improved (Malaysia no longer using Yes but Celcom). Has they improved for Indonesia since then?

Indonesia is still SmartFren. Possibly just because of VoLTE.

Just use VoIP services.
Probably the roaming carrier charge Orange France for Roaming Voice, then Orange France charge SIMBA for Roaming Voice.

It doesn't make sense to charge customers $2+ per min for roaming voice when using VoIP would cost pennies? Like how much you need to talk to even clock that 10MB data block which is $0.04?

If you die die need normal voice and sms roaming, stay with incumbents and pay more lo. Nobody is forcing you to migrate to SIMBA Telecom anyway hahaha
