Not all homes electrical system will work well with powerline adapters, buy a system from a local retail store that offers returns so you wont be stuck with a set that does not work

Didn’t have good experience with homeplug when I first tried it 4-5 years ago. Suggest your read up on MoCA or mesh Wifi instead. I’m using Netgear Orbi now and while there are some minor issues, it have largely solved my Wifi issues.

I have a TPLink 8730 kit that I am reasonably pleased with - where can I buy an additional extender (for a second room)? All I see are kits. Also, can I mix and match different TPLink extenders on the same network?

The best thus far that I have seen are home plug where the power source is separated from the unit itself. This way the home plug performance won't be affect by the heat from the power source. (I don't see anyone selling this homeplug anymore in Singapore.)

I would say more home plug with built-in power source suffers from bad network traffic is very largely due to heat issues and no matter how the R&D engineers try to cool down the units, the heat will still cause network throughput issues.

Regardless of chipsets for the homeplugs, the power source is best separated from the network PCB.

IIRC, I have 4 or 5 pairs of
AV1200 3-Port Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit / AV1200 Gigabit Passthrough Powerline Starter Kit

IMHO, for optimum performance,
a) power devices must be connected thru the homeplug passthrough
b) one homeplug per wall socket (single or double) i.e double walll socket, leave the other socket free.

I am able to get > 200Mbps.

Tplink or Dlink. Dlink now on promotion offer at challenger, if u have not have one just buy one set and try. Definately better than range extender but cannot compare to mesh system. Best is netgear orbi, follow by linksys velop. But price is much higher, if landed house, don't want to go for wiring the whole house, best to get netgear orbi. Confirm good, as many friends have this, two or three levels also can receive. If on budget can try tplink mesh, for hdb or condo.

From my own experience after having tried both TPlink and Aztech for the past 2 years, I would personally highly recommend Aztech as the speed and connection is more consistent.

TPlink's connection seems to be quite unstable for me (intermittent connections), but it may be just me.
