Have you tried to use mobile app instead of website? Taobao websites (eg: s.taobao.com) are known to be slow in Singapore.

I am using Singtel and Taobao seems to be pretty okay --- we use mobile app (iOS + Android) though.

However I do not recommend Singtel for new sign-up because of ONR.

Hopefully M1 and Starhub users will chime in with their experiences as well. I tend to belive both are okay as well.

MR and VQ users seem to have more complaints about Taobao. One solution is to use paid VPN like Transocks.

Are you on MR's gamer plan? I observed 1 good (~70ms) and 4 bad (~250ms) results on MR.

Ping and traceroute results to taobao.com.
Included in the mix are Singtel, Starhub, M1, Viewqwest, MyRepublic, SPTel, SuperInternet, Pacific Net and NUS.
Also threw in cloud providers like Alibaba, Tencent, Microsoft, Google, Akamai (Linode) and Digital Ocean for comparison sake.

Mouse over the ASN (2nd column) to see the ISP used for the measurement.
Ping

Traceroute
https://atlas.ripe.net/measurements/58277044/#probes

TL; DR
I set Alibaba as the benchmark (~70-80ms) since they host Taobao, and they are a Chinese entity so I'd expect they have better connection back into China.

Only Singtel, SPTel, and NUS have decent connections (~70ms) to Taobao.
Commercial/Static(?) M1 fibre (AS17547) might come in at 100ms, their residential connections (AS4773) are consistently ~250ms.
Cloud providers like Microsoft and Google can get around 70-80ms as well.

Just take note there is a big difference between www.taobao.com and s.taobao.com.
Code:
PS C:\work\speedtest> ping www.taobao.com

Pinging www.taobao.com.danuoyi.tbcache.com [163.181.35.232] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 163.181.35.232: bytes=32 time=37ms TTL=51
Reply from 163.181.35.232: bytes=32 time=38ms TTL=51

Reply from 163.181.35.232: bytes=32 time=38ms TTL=51

Ping statistics for 163.181.35.232:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 37ms, Maximum = 38ms, Average = 37ms

PS C:\work\speedtest> ping s.taobao.com

Pinging v6-sh-sz-zb.wagbridge.alibaba.taobao.com.gds.alibabadns.com [59.82.29.204] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 59.82.29.204: bytes=32 time=89ms TTL=82

www.taobao.com is hitting the cache, same as world.taobao.com.

Base latency form Singapore to China should be at least 70-80ms, so anything faster than that is hitting the cache.

When Taobao is loading slowly.....it is telling me to go slow on my purchases.

Or maybe to not check out immediately but accumulate more purchases then sent to 集运仓 for bulk delivery.

It is a money saving feature of MR. :ROFLMAO:

Best routes to China from Singapore, probably Singtel. But it's not so significant that it warrants an ISP change imo. Perhaps your needs might be latency intolerant.

Good luck with local SG-SG traffic tho - including CDNs and caches, cos they're usually hosted behind the other cheaper IXes - Singtel charges far too much for them. ;)

Yeah, but the other ISPs don't have good routes to China at all. So our best to China is still ST.

For consumer traffic to China (CT - China Telecom AS4134), no local ISPs in Singapore have best route to CT because ISPs have to purchase IP transit from CT and CT is charging very expensive for traffic usage (CT they already know who need who more) which consumer traffic cannot afford for the cost if ISP just buy CT transit for the usage of huge consumer traffic to China CT. Hence, for better route to CT, ISPs usually prioritize for bussiness/corporate/premium Customers who has critical services in China or with CT that they have to pay for better route to CT. For other China providers: China Unicom CU AS4837, China Mobile CM AS58453... they have peering links to local ISPs in Singapore so who have better peering connection/capacity to them will have better performance, in this case, ST is considerded having better route to China so far, at least to me (my company in SG using ST&NTT have branch in China using CT, the connection ST to CT have normally had better latency and performance than the other).

not moi
sooooon lo :s13:
Waiting! Hopefully it's competitive. Better if you can do away with ONTs. :s13:

Switch to soft SIP for phone line too, instead of requiring a hardware phone. idk why StarHub stopped their SIP service. :(

This is the best ISP for taobao.com be it phone app or website.

https://www.transocks.com/
Best thing about this app, it supports Paypal payment.

Indeed it is better to use going-into-China specific VPN like Transocks or others if one face issues with China websites.

Transocks is one of the easiest to register and pay (in-app purchase from Android/iOS, Wechat Pay, Alipay, Paypal).

Other than Transocks, there are a few other options but some of them are not as easy as Transocks in terms of payment options and registration. And often in-app purchase will be more expensive, especially using Apple App Store.

SpeedIN is another easy-to-use China VPN (in-app purchase from Android/iOS, Wechat Pay, Alipay, Paypal, Credit Card). But the performance may not be as good as Transocks and AJS.
https://www.speedin.in/
Malus VPN (in-app purchase from Android/iOS, Wechat Pay, Alipay, Paypal).
https://getmalus.com/
SpeedCN (in-app purchase from Android/iOS, or Wechat Pay or Alipay)
https://speedcn.in/
AJS: (not as easy to register as you may need a mobile number from mainland China, only accept Wechat Pay and Alipay)
