With regards to the appeal of the policy, it is important to check with the underwriters on the required documents which they require in order to review your condition.

In such cases, they may require you to go for perhaps (ie. a spine x-ray) and be able to underwrite risk based on the report. However, please note that the cost of going for such tests are to be borne by the policyholder and does not guarantee a definite result of lifting the exclusion.

In my personal opinion, despite the exclusion imposed, you are still granted hospitalization coverage for the other medical conditions. There are also scenarios where the life assured gets rejected completely therefore it is good to at least have some form of coverage as it is unpredictable with regards to our health condition as we age.

For rider, it would be advisable to check out the different websites of each insurers for more information.

Hope this will aid you to understand the key differences. I think at the end of the day, it is important to find someone who can facilitate you during event of the claim as I'm sure you would want it to be fuss-free. Another point, is also as highlighted, the claims rate avail on MOH website.

Have PM-ed you for the websites for reference.

Can you also PM me the MOH website for the claim?
Or best is you put the link to the website and everyone can read?

sorry to TS but I need to ask for advise to my case. I plan to upgrade from the basic medishield to aia healthshield gold , but due to the fact that I declare I having back pain problem which doesn't require surgery. I am being excluded for all treatment cost arising from the spine, intervertebral discs, nerve roots or supporting musculature and ligaments disease or disorder or any injury. My question is can I appeal against the exclusion and should I take up the plan? Thank you.

when medishield life comes in during 2015, would that not overwrite the insurance company exclusion? ie from now till somewhere in 2015, u r not covered for spine problems, but after that u will be covered.

This is the reason why I don't buy plan that covers private hospital. $200 seems much higher than what govt hospitals charge (have one relative went for cancer operation also, i think only 5 figures) and will come back to bite you in the form of increased premiums down the road.

Private hospital, the sky is the limit. Want to order Lobster for dinner, take VIP suite... go ahead.... all paid for by other policyholders....

Sorry to necro this thread. But it seems that private hospital patients do more than order Lobster.

While there is scope for more education, there are dangers when the patient becomes, "too educated". There has been anecdotal evidence of patients on private insurance plans who overconsume. For example, seeing a specialist when a GP would have sufficed, getting surgery when they could have recuperated naturally, or even staying in a hospital for longer than necessary, all because they are covered.

One such patient is “Andrew”, who underwent knee surgery at a private hospital. His doctor had recommended that he stay a night after the operation, but the patient later decided to extend it by another night.

While he was feeling alright, he was not at his “100 per cent”, he claimed. Also, the hospital had subscribed to a football tournament on television and that was a service the patient did not have at home.

"I thought 'Why not? I can recover for one more night and I get to watch soccer!', “Andrew” said. “There weren't many questions asked. My request was immediately put up, I didn't speak to the doctor and just within a short period of time, they came back and said, 'ok, you can stay one more night.'"

In Govt restructured hospital, they try to discharge you ASAP. In private hospital, how long you want to stay? :s13: So I stay away from private shield plans because the premiums are going to skyrocket and I got no interest paying premiums so that others can eat Lobster and watch Euro 2016 in private hospital. My plan only covers class A with rider.

I am also thinking of downgrading to class A with rider from private, especially when the premiums rise next year. Expecting quite a sizeable increase. Hopefully everything can be covered by MA account without needing any cash top ups.

However, my company insurance specifically covers certain private hospitals as well. Thinking if hospitalised might as well just go private hospital to use company + IP coverage.
