Best method to store data, easily access and secured?

There is no right and wrong answer here. Personally, I will recommend storing important data physically on a reliable drive, and at the same time, back them up on the cloud. I said reliable drive, because people like to buy cheap portable hard disks for backing up important information/ data. The risk of cheap drive is higher because low quality drives are used to keep portable hard disk prices low.

yea i learn the hard lesson buying cheap hdd long time ago and now i cant access to the files anymore

isnt it need to pay for subscription fees? not really sure how cloud works.

Im actually was looking into something like NAS, but seems like expensive, difficult to set up etc...so just get branded ext hdd?

My take is if there's data that you really cannot afford to lose, just follow the 3-2-1 concept of backing up data. Chances of losing your data if the concept is followed properly is pretty minute.

How far to go with it, only you can answer that question.

You can buy a used pixel 1 to 5, or flash pixel experience firmware on a compatible phone like poco m3 ($160). downside is uploading is slow about 200GB/day. Upside is it is really unlimited and i have more than 100TB uploaded

I think this "unlimited" Google Photo storage is no more. And I believe it applies to all Pixel phones, and not just to the latest models. Those uploaded prior to June will still remain. Anyway, you sure you have 100 TB of photos or 100 GB. 100 TB is crazy amount of pictures even if taken at the maximum resolution with a Google Pixel phone.

only the original pixel 1 has unlimited original photo upload forever. pixel 2 lost that feature start of this year, pixel 3 will be next year, after which they will have unlimited compressed photo upload. pixel 3a and later have always been on unlimited compressed photo upload. and this only applies to photos, not to the whole google drive storage. ts has not just photos too.

IMHO.
2-Bay USB 3.0 enclosure using 3.5" HDDs.
1st HDD for use and the 2nd HDD for backup.
4TB HDD is about $150 ?

If you 4-Bay, you can almost hassle free expand if your usage increases.
E.g. at a later stage, you can add 1x 8TB HDD and the 2x 4TB becomes the backup drives.
