So ytd went to sign a corporate mobile line and iPhone max at a Jurong Point

So the customer officer attended to me and tell me the different combos they were offering, and then asked me to sign up for an insurance package for my phone. I wasn't interested in the insurance so I rejected him. So he told me that if i get the insurance ($118 per year, can cancel the insurance after 1 year), he can waive the caller ID charges (total $130 for 2 years), which is worth it to sign. But still I decided not to sign.

Then before I sign the contract, I went through all the charges, and realized that under corporate line, caller ID is totally waived for the 2 years contract. The staff then told me "eh sorry, your caller ID under corporate account is free."

Seriously? So the staff don't know that corporate account caller ID is free? Or are they trying to scam customers into buying their phone insurance? This is totally disgusting.

Partly my fault bcos i didn't read through the benefits of corporate line, but i didn't expect Singtel' customer sales officer to use this type of cheap tactic to sell their phone insurance. So pls take note when u sign the line with them!

The phone insurance policy is a good plan, but if customer really don't need it then don't use scam us into getting it.

Not all sales staff are familiar with what they may sell &or the package come with.

Some sales staff may be new and may be told to sell everything if possible including 3rd party insurance scheme.

Whereas the main problem is that if the package do come with some freebies and is being removed whether intentional or not then this would be become problematic as some customers may not be aware of those freebies.

Yes I agree that some sales staff might be new. But before they offer us cost saving packages, I think they should check the customer's corporate package to see what is chargeable and what is not.

CIS package for the 3 main Telco come with free 24 months Caller-ID.

Not sure do the sales staff provide anymore other freebies like NTUC &or SAFRA members etc; which maybe ongoing for Starhub & M1.. iirc.

Ya so basically the salesperson told me I need to pay for Caller ID even when I'm On CIS.. only if I sign the insurance then he will waive for me.. I believe he is just trying to use this to get me to sign the insurance..

That's the mobileswop service @ $9.90 for 12months. I was also told that when I port in my line to Singtel CIS at comcentre. The sales person told me I am eligible for Caller ID only if I sign online.

She told me that instead of signing Caller ID for 24 months by paying $120, why not sign for 12 months mobileswop ($9.90 x 24 = $118.80) and then get 24months Caller ID ($120) free? 2 services for the same price.

CIS customers are not eligible for NTUC / SAFRA membership benefits.

And no, StarHub Free Caller Number Display & Roaming is depending on promo. Sometimes only 12 months out of the 24 months handset contract. SingTel Free CID & Roaming is the same situation; sometimes requiring DataX2/3 or MobileShare or other VAS then give too.

M1 is the only carrier that consistently give full 24 months CID and Roaming subscription for handset contract.

Yeps indeed. I've heard some are subsidized caller ID rates.

But whatever it is, it will always be best that we do our due diligence. Even buying McDonald's doesn't guarantee they will give us whatever we ordered, so checking what we are getting is a must on consumer part. Glad that TS read through contract before signing.

Is really not easy as a sales staff, probably that is his 10000th customers and he may just be repeating some standard template that he tell almost everyone and overlook the CIS benefits portion.

ST staff always known for their hard selling tactics. I went to recontract fibre only end up they signed me up for miotv as well just because they asked casually what tv package I think my family will watch. I specifically said I want fibre only and never once said I agreed to sign up for miotv. Lucky I’m the type who read the contract, kan them big time. When dealing with them have to be firm and thick skin.

I always make sales on the benefits of the product or service to ensure it meet the needs of the customer.

even when u call their customer service, for CIS they always redirect us to their "corporate" department.. so it seems their normal sales do not know anything abt CIS related promos...

Bro exactly what happened to me but mine was in the shop.. but then lucky I read the contract because caller ID is free for 2 years under CIS

Omg I had a similar issue at @Singtel Parkway when I recontract yesterday. But the difference is that the sales staff told me that she has to include this mobileswop ‘insurance’ in the contract and asked me to later terminate this ‘insurance’ on the singtel app and there will be no fees incurred. I already said I do not want this add-on to be included in the contract as I told her that I am selling my phone away but she insisted that it is a bundle and I cannot opt out. The only way to remove it is through the singtel app. So i trusted what she said and when I sign the contract there was a bunch of add-ons including the ‘insurance’. Besides the insurance she also mentioned to me some magazine subscription, viu premium which are free for a few months and I can aso easily cancel on the singtel app if I do not need it. At that time, I also overheard another salesman introducing this ‘insurance’ to another customer saying that it can be terminated from the singtel app. As I was rushing for time and have been able to cancel such add-ons from the singtel app easily in the past, I did not think too much and signed the contract.

Today I read through the mobile contract again and realise that this ‘insurance’ has a minimum of 12months contract and an early termination fee if I terminate before the minimum subscription period. This part of the contract was not shown nor explained to me at all! She has clearly misrepresented to me about the no fees for this ‘insurance’!

I am planning to contact singtel by phone and their branch and complaint letter if they do not cancel the ‘insurance’ for my line. Should I just terminate this immediately on the App and then die die ask them to waive it and not pay any penalty? I clearly do not require this service as I have sold away my recontracted phone. ._. Pls help!
