I have a feeling that smartphone bezels... or at least thick ones will soon go out of favour...

After seeing phones with slim bezels or no bezels... I kinda developed an indifference towards phones with thick bezels... it's like once u go black, u dun go back tt kinda thing... wat do u guys think? Will manufacturers stop producing phones with bezels (or thick bezels) soon? Or is it already unwise for them to come out with such phones now (like Apple's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus)?

It's a trend to come, but budget phones will still come with the traditional smartphone design. Flagship and upper mid-range smartphone will likely have the full screen display aka. 18:9 display ratio as a norm as time goes.

There are several China phone brands that have alr come out with budget/mid-range phones that have slim bezels/no bezels. Some examples are the Doogee Mix & UmiDigi Crystal.

And there is an Indian phone brand - Micromax that has alr come out with the Canvas Infinity which is a budget phone with a full-screen 18:9 screen like the LG G6. Even LG themselves have come out with the Q6 which is like a more affordable/more toned down version of the G6 as they share some similar features including the "FullVision" 18:9 screen.

Interestingly enough
The LG Q6 is a bezel-less design at affordable costs

I guess a bezel-less future for smartphones seems to be an inevitable outcome. Apple will most likely ditch production of thick bezel iPhones and stick to producing more iPhones that have slim bezels or no bezels at all if they can achieve it... Samsung is already making refinements to their designs for 2018 Galaxy smartphone lineups.

It is a trend. Like last time people think phones are too big and thick. Fast forward to now, we see very big phones and some are happy to stack their portable charger on it making it look thick and retro.

This bezeless trend may last for sometime. The next in thing for phone makers may be foldable screens since the OLED are made from plastic and can be folded and cut into different kind of shapes and sizes.

Xiaomi joins in the party by introducing their own affordable range of near bezel-less phones, the Redmi 5 and 5 Plus... but for now, they're only available in China...

It's been like 5 months since I last updated this thread and boy have we seen an influx of new phones with bezel-less screens (plus or minus the notch :s8:)... and the best thing is it's easily attainable since it's not specific to a certain price segment (of phones)... :s12::s12::s12:

One of the latest very affordable phone models to come with a full screen is the Huawei Y6 (2018) which surely would be in contention with Xiaomi's Redmi 5 for the "cheapo"-bezel-less-phone crown here in SG... :D

To be honest, I don't mind phones with bezels, but they should not be big. Now when you look at say the iPhone 8 plus, the bezel looks ridiculous since Apple is just too busy with the iPhone X to bother to make any changes to the 4 year old design. Sony is the worst offender with their design for the last gen flagship that lasted since their first Xperia Z series.

Lol ya I also dun quite fancy phones with the notch.. I have a question.. the main purpose of having a notch is to take up as little space as possible on the front side of the phone to place the camera lens, sensors and wat not so that the screen gets to occupy as much of the front side as possible ya? But are the 2 areas of space that are saved (on both sides of the notch) so useful/important that we have to have them? How much of text/image can we squeeze in those small spaces anyway? I'd rather not have them so that there wouldn't be any rude protrusion anywhere along the edges of the screen..

Huawei, or Honor SG in particular is bringing in a new model.. the Honor 7S. The pre-order price is set at $129 now but I dunno if they'll increase the price later on though. Just when we thought full view phones can't get any cheaper... :s8:
