They received stares from passers-by as they walked along the pavement.

Malaysian Blackpink fans book hotel in Geylang due to proximity to National Stadium

A group of Blackpink fans from Malaysia had an unexpected experience after booking a hotel in Geylang for the K-pop group’s recent concert.

As they walked through the area in their bold outfits, the group drew curious looks from passers-by.

In an Instagram reel posted on Monday (1 Dec), user @ivor_xianz documented the group’s reaction as they walked along the busy streets of Geylang dressed in their concert-ready fits.

In the clip, the group can be seen posing in front of the Lorong 8 Geylang street sign, opposite the famous Lor 9 Beef Kway Teow.

Their expressions ranged from amused to mildly surprised as they took in their surroundings, realising the area was a little different from typical tourist spots.

After passing an adult store and getting some unsolicited stares from men, they later realised they had booked a hotel in Singapore’s red-light district.

“Pov: you booked a hotel in red light district for Blackpink concert,” the TikToker wrote in the text overlay.

The OP, identified as Ivor, explained that they booked the hotel as it was just a 15-minute walk from the concert venue.

‘Slay outfit, wrong district’

Despite the surprise at the area’s reputation, the group of Blackpink fans appeared to take the situation in stride.

Their outfits, coordinated for the Blackpink concert, contrasted sharply with the gritty backdrop.

“Slay outfits but wrong districts,” read the caption.

After some time, the group eventually decided to take a taxi to the concert venue instead of walking there.

The experience was not entirely negative, though, as Ivor and her friends enjoyed the “fashion runway” at a pedestrian crossing.

Ivor also provided a piece of advice for visitors coming to Singapore for concerts.

So yea, maybe don’t book in Geylang if you’re going to dress up for concert near National Stadium.

Speaking to MS News, Ivor said she and her friends attended the Blackpink concert on Sunday (30 Nov).

The group had learnt about Geylang’s reputation from a “neighbour” at their hotel.

Overall, Ivor found the experience “funny and surprising” but decided to take a taxi to the concert venue after “getting uncomfortable” with the attention they were receiving.

Netizens surprised by OP’s hotel choice

The post has since gained traction among netizens, with some locals chiming in with their opinions.

A netizen felt that Geylang is still “a much safer place” compared to New York City and some other countries, even with its red-light-district reputation.

Another TikTok user shared that Geylang offers a “different experience”, including delicious food.

The Kallang staff praised for ‘amazing’ crowd control after coinciding Blackpink & Jacky Cheung concerts

Wo he ni wen bie in your area.

Fans enjoy seamless crowd control with Blackpink & Jacky Cheung tunes outside Stadium MRT

On the same day that two major concerts took place, the staff at Stadium MRT made the best of the crowded situation, playing a mix of both artists’ songs to keep fans entertained.

Their creative crowd control measures received widespread praise from concertgoers, who were guided smoothly across the three nights of simultaneous shows.

K-pop meets Canto-pop

From Friday (28 Nov) to Sunday (30 Nov), South Korean girl group Blackpink performed at the National Stadium, while Hong Kong singer Jacky Cheung held a concert at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

On the first night, a TikTok user attending the Blackpink concert posted a video of the crowd gathering at Stadium MRT after both shows.

Notably, one of Cheung’s songs was playing loudly over the speaker.

Despite the dense crowd, concertgoers remained calm and patient. Even Blackpink fans, dressed in themed outfits, could be seen singing along to Cheung’s tunes.

The original poster (OP) commented on the situation, praising the staff for their exceptional crowd management.

“Amazing crowd control at Stadium MRT,” he wrote, noting how staff prevented anyone from rushing into the station.

Then, on Saturday (29 Nov), another TikToker attending the Blackpink concert waved her lightstick while singing along to Cheung’s classic hit ‘Wen Bie’, joking: “Still in my Blackpink era but Jacky Cheung said not today.”

Another video captured concertgoers near the gantry on Friday, with Blackpink’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ playing in the background while staff in neon vests efficiently ushered the crowd.

Commendations for staff & concertgoers

Netizens were quick to applaud the seamless crowd management, noting how the situation shifted from potentially chaotic to unexpectedly enjoyable.

Thanks to the staff’s efforts, many said it felt like experiencing the best of both worlds, a rare blend of trendy K-pop and timeless Canto-pop energy in one night.

Praise also went to the professionalism of the on-ground team, with one commenter highlighting how concertgoers remained calm and cooperative despite the overwhelming crowd.

Others observed that those born in the ’90s might have enjoyed an especially nostalgic moment, being familiar with the hits of both Blackpink and Jacky Cheung.

Staff also used show lighting & bubble machines

In response to queries from MS News, a spokesperson from The Kallang Group shared that over the weekend, more than 180,000 fans attended the Blackpink and Jacky Cheung concerts across its venues.

Managing the high turnout required careful coordination, and on-ground staff held concertgoers in batches while regulating the flow into Stadium MRT to prevent overcrowding on the platforms.

Keeping the atmosphere upbeat was also a priority. Staff played popular tracks from both international acts, and for the first time, rolled out show lighting that shifted in colour and tone to the beat of the music, turning the area outside the station into a lively post-concert extension.

Bubble machines added another layer of fun, while dancers moved to Blackpink’s hits, making what would typically be a long wait an unexpectedly memorable part of the night.

“Our patrons are at the heart of everything we do, and their safety is our top priority,” the spokesperson said. “We remain committed to continually elevate our patrons’ experience at The Kallang, and to deliver against our ambition for The Kallang — to become the excitement epicentre of Singapore, a place where people come to feel alive.”

Blackpink concert-goer slams attendees who stood on chairs at National Stadium & blocked view of others

"You bought VIP seats, and you standing on the chair? It’s honestly embarrassing," she wrote.

Blackpink concert-goer furious after some attendees stood on seats and obstructed view

A Blackpink fan who attended the girl group’s recent concert at the National Stadium has taken to TikTok to vent her frustration after several concert-goers stood on their chairs for stretches of the show, completely blocking the view of those behind them.

In a TikTok video uploaded on 29 Nov, several attendees can be seen balanced on top of their seats, phones raised as they filmed the members on stage.

The original poster (OP), seated a few rows behind, said she hadn’t planned to rant online, but was “extremely upset” by the behaviour.

She questioned why some fans lacked basic concert etiquette, blocking the view of others for parts of the show.

She also expressed confusion over why these attendees bought pricier VIP seats only to stand on the chairs.

“It’s honestly embarrassing,” she wrote in her post caption.

Netizens understand frustration

Many commenters sympathised with the OP, noting that similar behaviour has been happening at concerts more frequently.
One netizen remarked that “every concert” seems to have fans who pull such stunts.

Another labelled the behaviour “inconsiderate” and unfair to others who also paid for their seats.

Others shared their own experiences, with one saying they encountered the same issue during the Stray Kids show at the same venue.

Some questioned where security was, and the OP replied that a staff member eventually stepped in and asked the chair-standing fan to get down.

MS News has reached out to the OP for more information.

Standing on chairs against venue rules

According to the conditions of entry for events at the National Stadium, all attendees are to maintain safe, prudent, and respectful behaviour at all times.

In response to MS News queries, The Kallang group said they appreciate the enthusiasm patrons bring to every event, as the energy makes every live event special and unforgettable.

“Standing on chairs, however, poses a safety risk, and for this reason, our venue team intervened and advised the patrons to remain seated,” The Kallang Group spokesperson added.

They also took the opportunity to request that all patrons cooperate with their team and comply with safety guidelines, noting that patron safety remains their top priority.
