yes. the stealth version is exclusive to razer online only. you can not find it elsewhere. if you want rgb mechanical keyboards, can take a look at corsair's rgb offerings or logitech g910. by this i mean programmable per key lit rgb. not those that can only program certain sections of the keyboard

roy, the stealth version for blackwidow croma is only available at razer store.

even the orbweaver stealth is only available there.

You really want then try get a student emai (razer student program)l to help you discount up to 15%, still subject to T&C.

Or you can wait and see if razer is going to do their post CES 50% off Sale, which may or may not happen.

However, I would suggest you to consider corsair rgb lineup instead @ qoo10 or local shops. :)

Thanks for reply!

Sorry for the late reply!

I've researched and compared all three keyboards. Logitech, Corsair and Razer.
Logitech is totally out though, the keycaps are horrible. I've tried them and it just feels dam wierd. haha! When you say clicky tactile, what does the others do? do you have any other keyboards to recommend?

Would really love to have you guys opinion on Razer's chroma stealth vs K70 RGB red switches.

I still prefer the Razer one though. Mainly because of the aesthetics? The lights are more vibrant etc etc. But you know, preference can be change! haha.

I'm not really much of a gaming person actually. More of a hobby into making a nice desktop. Like a nice desk with led and stuff. haha! You know la, fancy lighting. :s12:

Razer chroma stealth is using kailh orange switch which is a copy of cherry mx brown keys. They provide tactile feedback but no audible click. Cherry red switches are linear. You can try and feel the differences yourself but i feel they will still produce that bottoming out sound.

From the youtube videos so far it seems the silent keys on the strafe does sound quieter than either keys.

They are many quality keyboards out there from brands like das, filco, ducky, deck, cmstorm and many others. But for true per key programmable rgb, I'm afraid there's only those few choices eg razer blackwidow chroma, corsair strafe rgb, corsair k series rgb, logitech g910, steelseries apex m800... for now.

I believe XS do carry them. I even saw a few units off challenger's shelf. Personally love how light and also "accidental-force-resistant" the keys (on chroma non stealth) are. I am not an accurate typist all the time and I don't fancy red switch because of this, but they feel great to actuate, just like blue but it takes quite a bit more force with my wrist resting down.

There are many types of quality keyboards out there to choose from. Not just aesthetics, functions and also useful things that might go a long way. Razer to me, i'm totally not bought over by their quality and also their products just do not find anywhere in my gaming arsenal.

I will just run through briefly on what you can aspect from a mechanical keyboard.

Switches:

There are many type of switches in market. There are Cherry MX, Omron, Matias, Topre, Kailh(Razer's uses this) and the list goes on.

You can read more here

Know what you like and what you feel when you type. I know that there is a lot of users switched from Blue switches to other type (based from my experiences while i may be wrong). Simply because it is noisy. And Razer Blackwidow series is one of them. It has the tactile feedback that makes noises each time you let go the keys.

Features/Functions/Usage etc:

This is a mix bag. There are a lot of features and functions of various mechanical keyboards. Choose the ones that has most of your needs.

So in my honest opinion, these are the few features that i personally find it useful and is a basic thing that a mechanical keyboard should have.

- Basic multimedia keys on F1-F12
- Detachable USB chord
- Know what kind of stabilizers are being used
- OEM Keycaps profile for easy swap of keycaps in future
- Provided with keycap puller (optional)

Other things below are wants:

- Bluetooth features
- N key rollover
- PBT material keycaps
- Type of material used on exterior of the keyboards
- USB input
- Microphone & Headphone jack

Keycaps, i highly stress this, NOT ALL keyboards have standard sizing of keycaps. There are some keyboards that has different sizing for bottom rows of keycaps. Such as the CTRL, WIN, ALT and Spacebar. Standard sizing is 1.25, 1.25, 1.25, 6.25 respectively.

Some keyboards have it differently such as 1.5, 1, 1.5, 6. Which is not of standards, and it is very hard to find replacement for the last row. Especially with different gradient slope in different position. IIRC, Corsair and older models of Coolermaster Quickfire TK has this type of odd sizing.

Backlit LED:

LED is not a must. But to me it is a double edge sword. It can be good to a certain advantage, and it can be bad to a certain extent.

Having LED is good for dark usage. It can be good for one to view where are the keys. But if you are a well versed typer, you wont be looking at it. And it can render useless.

Another bad point of having LEDS are, more point of failure. LEDS do blow after a period time of usage. Usually it happens when the current running through the LEDS are usually more than usual and it can cause the LEDS to blow up at times. And when it does, it is like a virus, it spreads. Lastly i hate it when it is at night, it can be a distraction and it is quite bright even if i were to set the LEDS to be lower.

Although it is probably a mixed reviews, i personally feel that it is good to have a keyboard without backlit LEDS.

also note Kailh switch is cheaper to produce than Cherry. and Razer isn't exactly selling it cheaper.

The original BlackWidow Ultimate Stealth uses Cherry MX Browns and is a good solid keyboard. Having used this for a number of years, I am happy with the Browns and will not use any other type of switch. The tactile feedback is good, a bit clicky but certainly not loud. If sound is an issue, there are always O-rings available.

Anyone who wants to buy a mechanical keyboard can first buy a sample switch tester like this one - http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E71W4O8?keywords=key tester&qid=1452181983&ref_=sr_1_3&sr=8-3

to get a feel for the various types of switches.

IIRC the new switches now used by Razer are also made by Cherry so the quality should be similar. (Edit: ignore this last paragraph. The info is not correct.)
