hi all, ''siao onz'' NSF REC here :s22:
so my story goes, i enlisted in 4th jan 2017 enhanced leadership batch. i OOT due to pneumonia (mere days before my field camp. ****ed up) and down to temp pes e. :(
i got posted to supply unit, and in 25th august managed to up to B1L1 back again. however i still havent received recourse FFI and can only do ippt at end of september. wat are the chances i can be squeezed into october enhanced leadership? if can or cannot, any recommendations? :s11:
i wanna recourse and goto command school though preferably SCS now so i dont have to extend as long as compared to OCS. ;)
i may get alot of flak from my fellow NSFs (we the mostly-unwilling enlistees LOL) for saying this, but im aiming for command school so to make my 2 years as fulfilling as possible. and in the past 6 months as a chill clerk-storeman, this fire hasnt gone out yet. every single day here got me questioning, isit still worth it to push so much, when any rational NSF would prefer to lepak serve and f*** off till IC turns pink? and then my very reasons for pushing so much would keep me on track. :s12:
i am more sure than ever that i wanna take this second chance. and if i dont make the cut for command school, so be it cos at least i know i did smth right for myself :)

You already have a vocation as storeman in an unit. So normally, you will remain in current vocation & unit.

However you can request to your commander to post out to BMT recourse & work towards SCS but unlikely it will approved.

So the best way is to perform in current unit & ask your commander to sent you to Supply Supervisor Course to be CQSM.

Based on logic, as long as the date of the October batch has not come and go, there's still a possibility? What recommendation? You mean people recommend you to go then you can go? Doesn't make any sense.

If say you have to extend, are you willing to extend as long as had you gone to OCS?

So you are saying that only people who go to command school can make 2 years as fulfilling as possible? If you can't make your 2 years fulfilling as a clerk or storeman then i doubt your suitability as a commander.

You better don't be one.

First and third para wrong. It's true that he has a vocation now. But that was when he was non-combat fit (PES E). Now that he has changed combat fit,he needs to recourse BMT as BMT is needed to train combat fit people. Combat fit people cannot escape BMT recourse one, unless your recourse is nearing your ORD or you down pes.
My clerks from Temp E to C also need recourse. Temp E to B? No need to say liao

anyway, yes october batch might still be possible. but going through the standard system takes long, and its not really uncommon for ppl to try find their way around it. im alr thinking of it

Hi dave, since you have already up your pes to B1L1, there's a high possibility you would be sent back to BMTC to complete your BMT as all combat fit soldiers are required to pass out as privates (except some rare cases).

Speak to your direct superior and sound off your intention. Depending on the manpower in your unit, he/she might delay or push for your recourse. Your S1 is the key person deciding whether or not you will recourse. :s12:

I have re-read again. TS OOT from PESA/B BMT (enhanced leadership batch) & he is Temp PES E. He is now in a supply unit & work as a 'clerk-storeman'. He just up PES to B1L1. I am now short of information like:

  • Has TS completed his PES E BMT?
  • Has TS completed his vocational training?
  • What is his vocation?

I have misread the first time. I assume that he OOT from PES A/B BMT but completed his PES E BMT. He was posted to supply unit as a storeman & just up PES to B1L1.

----------------------------------------

Let assume TS's vocation is storeman in order to carry on debating. If TS had not completed any BMT, he will needs to recourse PES A/B BMT since he is PES B1L1 in order to get promotion. However if TS has already pass out from PES E BMT, he do not needs to go for PES A/B BMT cause he already meet the requirement for promotion for his storeman vocation.

At unit's point of view, no point sending him to PES A/B BMT cause he will still come back to the unit to serve as storeman. His reservist will most likely remain as storeman too. To add on, his workload will be cover by someone or nobody at all that affect the unit operation.

If post him out to PES A/B BMT, unit will be shortage of manpower (cause don't know when the next storeman posted in to do his job) cause his workload will be cover by someone or nobody at all that affect the unit operation. No commander have the right of mind will do this.

--------------------------------------------

Has your clerks already pass out from PES E BMT? If yes, your clerks (Temp E to C) already a PTE & have meet the requirement for promotion to PFC & above, why still needs to attend PES C BMT since your clerk will still came back to your unit & reservist as clerk?

If no, he will needs to go for PES C BMT. However the most important thing is his vocation really a clerk or just some OOT siakang warrior doing admin work?

If he is a OOT siakang warrior, his route of advancement should be post out of unit to attend PES C BMT in order to secure a vocation (trainee) suitable for him.

Hi TS, I misread your thread on this 1st time & may give you a wrong advice. I needs more information from you.

  1. Have you completed PES E BMT or any BMT?
  2. Have you completed your vocational training?
  3. What is your vocation?

If you are just some OOT siakang warrior doing 'clerk-storeman' job without a vocation in a supply unit, you can request your unit to POST OUT to BMT courses so that you have chance to enter command school. Remember is POST OUT & not SENT FOR BMT course. Sent for BMT course mean you will still return to the unit & unlikely have the chance to go for SCS.

The purpose of PES A/B Tekong BMT is to train soldier to be weapon trained. PES E does not require soldiers to carry SAR21. He from non-combat fit become combat fit, hence he is eligible for SAR21 handling. Given your words that he do not need to recourse. In the event that war happens, how he carry weapon? He's not weapon trained and he is combat fit.
My clerk was a temp pes E for 10 months. He enlisted in pes e batch and completed it. He got a LCP rank during his temp pes. At the end of 10 months,he got up pes to C and recourse. Why? Because he's eligble for combat now and he has no technical handling lessons on SAR21. He's only required to attend Tekong BMT. Then he went back to his unit as he already got vocation badge. All OOT soldiers are eligble for PTE now.

I don't agree with you.

PES E clerk is located in HQ unit doing admin work. Just because he up pes to A/B does not change the fact that he is still a clerk & will remain in the same HQ unit to do admin work.

The Land Deployability Code for PES E is L9: Able to bear firearms and protect themselves, others and property. Can be deployed in combat support vocations in Main Support Area, and/or combat service support vocations of Brigade HQ and above.

Did not learn weapon handling as part of BMT does not mean one cannot bear firearms. SAF can always conduct a 0.5 day weapon handling course for SAR21 & follow by 0.5 to 1 day shooting course at firing range.

Regardless if one trained in weapon or not, everyone will just grab a weapon & fire at the enemy appear in front of you during war time.

So I do not see the needs for Temp PES E to Prem PES C Clerk to go for BMT again at PES C level in term of weapon handling or occupation need.

You don't see the need. SAF says otherwise. There is no other reason why my friend who completed PES E BMT have to recourse PES C (Mind you,it's PES C. Not eligible for command school). Unless you telling me he beg his S1 to send him to Tekong to experience grenade and SAR21 lah. Then I got nothing to say. SAF got protocol to follow one. So many people die, parents get overprotective. They don't step up confirm will have downfall.
"Regardless if one trained in weapon or not, everyone will just grab a weapon & fire at the enemy appear in front of you during war time."
I find this statement super wrong. If you are not trained in grenade throwing for example, you don't know how to throw a grenade. You end up killing your fellow ally. Is he aiding or sabotaging us? Do you mean all soldiers who are not trained in Metador/M203 will be allowed to use in SAF? Then what is Infantry/Arti unit for?
I'm currently serving with 2 PTEs going for recourse. They too have vocation training as well, trained as ASA/SA,but still need to go for recourse.
Singapore is facing low birth rate which decreases the number of combat fit soldiers we have. Last time maybe SAF can close one eye, now? I doubt so.
Oh ya. SAF has changed the directives. Recoursees have to sit through the whole Tekong BMT. They are not allowed to sit through only the technical handling lessons and test. So your 0.5 day thingy is out of option.

Kyoji83 experience was from damn long ago and he is somehow adapting it for what's happening currently. Say until like the information he has is so current. Told him before, but I think he wasn't able to comprehend so still quite oblivious to what's going on.

Teach you basic typing etiquette. There's such thing as paragraphs to make things easier to read.

Even if you had used your second example of "infantry guardsman or even commando, and i still made the exact same stance abt wanting to go command school", I will still interpret as only going to command school can make your 2 years fulfilling.

As I said, it doesn't matter what you do, it is on you on how you want to make your 2 years fulfilling. Don't blame it on what you do...

It is how you are putting it across, I'm not alleging anything.

I never say you shouldn't try. I'm saying, saying something is more fulfilling than the other, you are just opening a can of worms.

Why don't you ask your boss why is it taking so long.

I agree with you that those who are not train in grenade or Metador/M203 will be a risk to himself & his ally. But if clerk don't defense themselves mean they can only surrender themselves to the enemy without a fight. Then I really look down on them if this is the case.

To add on, those guards who station at HQ Office will mostly have only SAR21 & unlikely to have Metador/M203 to cause a hoo-ha like what you claim.

From my experience, a lot of commanders are not well versed with directives. They just monkey see & monkey do (Understudy blindly follow Upperstudy or 'hear say'). I don't believe there are such directives required PES C / E BMT graduate to go for PES A&B / C BMT when they have up pes.

I do not know what they trained in detail for different PES BMT. However there are something wrong with your view. PES A&B BMT is 9 weeks. PES C BMT is also 9 weeks but only 4 weeks is about BMT & other 5 weeks is vocational training. So a few things are not taught in PES C BMT compare to PES A&B BMT.

If your clerk (Prem C from Temp E) needs to go for 9 weeks PES C BMT, then what is his 5 weeks vocational training deployment after his 4 weeks BMT phase? Sound funny, right? Let assume your clerk only needs to go for 4 weeks BMT & return to his unit (& wait until his 3 to 4 days POP training phase).

If your clerk only needs to go for 4 weeks PES C BMT, then can the training for PES E BMT be covering the same topics since PES E BMT is also 4 weeks? If yes, then this is call productivity & do not needs to waste resources (time, manpower & money) on BMT recourse when one up pes.

Already said in my previous post, recoursees have no POC. They finish their Tekong BMT,they report back to unit where they have been posted to initially. Because they have done their vocation training. They only have to go through Tekong BMT,which is to make them weapon trained.
PES A & B Tekong BMT is 9 weeks and are more than PES C because they got longer field camps, SOC to clear,as well as more physical trainings compared to PES C (whereby lots of soldiers can't do PT). PES E BMT do not cover technical handling of SAR21 and grenade throwing (do not know how many times I must repeat)
The point I'm trying to make it across is...the purpose of Tekong BMT is to equip soldiers with SAR21 and grenade throwing knowledge. You don't call yourself a PES A/B soldier if you have never been through Tekong BMT.
Flowmap of the process:
NSF enlist into PES A/B BMT > NSF OOT and get temp down PES> NSF get posted to a unit > NSF gets vocational training (4 day course or so) > NSF gets up pes back > NSF will recourse when S1 get notified > NSF recourse > NSF go back to unit if its PES C BMT or not assign to new unit if it's PES A/B BMT

What I mean is every PES C serviceman have their own medical problem & excuse status. So when one have problem with this skill set due to medical reason, he can just skip it while his Platoon-mates have to do it. :o

So will it be productivity if SAF conduct the same topics for both PES C & E BMT during the 4 weeks duration? ;)

1) In that case, are you trying to tell me this is also the flow map of process? Serviceman POP from PES A&B BMT > down PES to E > go & POP from PES E BMT > up PES to C > go PES C BMT? :s8:

2) You sure assign to new unit if it's PES A/B BMT? If those up PES to A or B & left 1 month or less before ORD, how to go PES A/B BMT? During reservist? :s13:

Lol. Don't be ridiculous. You didn't read my post. Higher PES is always the priority
1) Serviceman POP from PES A&B BMT > down PES to E > JUST NEED TO GO THROUGH 4 DAYS OF SA/ASA course > Up PES to C > Remain in his unit as he have undergone both VOCATION TRAINING AND TEKONG BMT. No need to go through Tekong BMT because he has already been trained in PES A/B BMT
Which part of TS has not undergone weapon training do you not understand? He failed to POP from PES A/B BMT means he failed weapon training. Must I drill this in your head? Your this case is this person has completed weapon training. He do not need to undergo Tekong BMT again. Facepalm

yes i checked with my manpower IC multiple times alr. if i recourse PES A/B BMT (and POP with rest of my mates) and come back to this same unit, with same PES, i will most likely be assigned to different unit alr. to confirm, my S1 recently posted a new guy as my understudy. when my unit mates asked why, my immediate superior said that after i finish my PES A/B BMT recourse, i will get posted to diff unit liao. command school anot is another qn altogether uh. basically, wat u said is true :)

Glad that I'm able to clarify some of your doubts. Now our Uncle here can update his information. All the best to your command school dream
