Sama sama, but I have a question, the adding helper tool should only come AFTER the support software is downloaded, yours seems to happen during or before, is that correct?
Mine seems to happen during or before. It says copying windows files then I get the message about helper and then it says can only support Win 7.

I can't untick the second one i.e. latest Win support drivers. The only way I can untick that is if I tick the first one i.e. create Win 7 or later install disk. But if I do that then it will ask me to insert Win disc which I can't as I have no optical drive. And once I tick option 1, option 2 automatically gets selected and it can't be unselected unless I unselect option 1.

Since I was able to previously install trial version of 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium, anyone knows if I can just run the Win 8.1 ISO from within Win 7 and let is upgrade or something? I was told to remove the Win 7 partition with Boot Camp assistant after I extracted the Win 8.1 ISO and then create a new Win 8.1 partition with Boot Camp assistant but that can't be done as can be seen from the error messages I posted.

The upgrade part should be possible, but I don't know if you can do it with the full retail version since it's not the upgrade version. You should talk to the Microsoft support people, they were very helpful for my case.

[EDIT] Oops I just realised that the second is joined to the first. How about opening the ISO in a finder window to see what there is inside, then delete the drivers that don't appear in the ISO? Then download the drivers yourself
The problem is first is joined to second as you said. I have downloaded what I hope is the correct Boot Camp drivers but I can't use it. Boot Camp Assistant is adamant that either I use the thumbdrive as bootable media AND use their drivers or nothing at all. If I select not to let them search for their own drivers then I can't use the thumbdrive ISO, I must insert a DVD with Win 8.1 on it. So its not that I don't want to, rather I have no way to force it to use my downloaded drivers.

Okay, I screenshot-ed the stuff, imgur: the simple image sharer in the top window, it's the stuff in the ISO, the window at the bottom is the drivers, Your usb should have everything, right? If got, then just delete the stuff in the drivers window and put in your own drivers lor (assuming your drivers are the same stuff in my drivers window).

If still cannot ah, I recommend you go talk to one of the tech advisors at Apple

Thanks for your efforts but the problem now is it wouldn't even let me partition the HDD to a Boot Camp partition so having all the right drivers doesn't help.

Any idea if Apple tech support is open on weekends?

The 3rd button is grayed out? Btw, there's a problem with the bootcamp partitions format. You should create your own partition in Disk Utility, that's what I did for mine. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5490486?start=0&tstart=0 Should read it and make sure you don't waste your time trying to install windows on the original bootcamp partition if it's not the right format because it won't work.

The good thing about Apple tech support, my friend, is that it's always open. Select the mac option, iMac, Other Topics, The topic is not listed, type in "Bootcamp", and they'll direct you to a list of options. Use the chat option, not the phone calling one. https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action

No the 2nd option (download win support software from Apple) is greyed out not the 3rd. 2nd option is paired with the first. If I want to create a Win 7 or later install disk I MUST download the support sofware from apple. If I unselect option 2 it doesn't allow me to create a Win install disk and asks me to insert a disc containing Win. So yeah I'm screwed.

I managed to use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the original Boot Camp partition which I created to install Win 7 Home in order to run the exe file and get my Win 8.1 ISO. So I'm not installing win on the original boot camp partition. I'm creating a new one which I can't even get to that stage since it tells me my machine can only support Win 7. WTF! I can't even get to the stage where I select the size of the partition.

Hmmm best to talk to a tech advisor ba, they will have better knowledge of why your machine cannot create the partition

Tried talking to them online. Told me to download the drivers to thumbdrive A then use thumbdrive B to let Boot Camp Asst format and install windows file. Told me to plug in both thumbdrives. That didn't work. Same problem. Tells me my machine can only support Win 7.

Told me to do PRAM and SMC reset and try again. Both done now trying again. Sigh!

It seems that you NEED to have Win 7 installed before you can attempt to install Win 8.1 even though its a so called full version not an upgrade. Apple tech pointed that out.

So I am trying to reinstall Win 7 trial again. Just tried using Boot Camp asst to install Win 7 trial. It was fine yesterday but now it can't even install Win 7 trial. Tells me my machine can only support Win 7. DUH this IS Win 7 I'm trying to install!! :s8:

Already deleted by using Boot Camp Asst. But something tells me something is not right still which is why now I can't even install Win 7 trial when just a few days ago I could.

actual i am unclear about your prolem.
is not diffcult to setup a windows 8 using boot camp.

1) get a 8gb thumbdrive
2)get a windows 8 iso file.(from the link i gave u previously)
3)open your bootcamp chose ur iso file u downloaded
4)chose your 8gb thumbdrive and it will create a bootable flash
5)chose ur bootcamp harddisk space
6)shut down your mac.
7)press power button and hold on "option"key after u hear the sound
8)chose windows
9)installation should start
10)when u are promot to select a harddrive to install.
11)click on the drive u just partition out from ur mac at step 5
12)click on advance option/go to advance(if not wrong)
13)Format it
14)after formating, go bak and chose the formatted drive and click next.
15) everything should be smooth.

note
u required at least 20gb of space to install windows ONLY excluding other drivers and programs.so atleast 30-40gb is needed

That's not true. I didn't have win 7 installed on bootcamp before I installed win 8.1.

Using the time machine method might work, no harm trying to do it if you won't lose data.

As mentioned on page 1, as Boot Camp is preparing my thumbdrive it says my machine can only support Win 7 then aborts. I don't even get to chose my boot camp hard disk space!!

Ok I've had it. I will just buy a cheapo external DVD writer. Seems that is the only way to force Boot Camp to user my downloaded drivers and not use the default and then b*tch about can only support Win 7.

The thing is, do I just copy the Win 8.1 ISO to the DVD or do I need to make the DVD bootable first?
