Boot Drive - Migrating to SSD

I'm looking to migrate to a SSD as my boot drive. I'm currently using a WD Raptor with 300 GB capacity / 240gb utilised.

AS i'm not too keen on rebuilding my OS on the new SSD what are my options in cloning my current WD over to the SSD assuming that I get a Samsung SSD @ 256gb?

Some SSD comes with cloning software which you can use to clone your current drive over. But personally, to get the most of the upgrade, best to reinstall a fresh copy of OS.

if you are into cloning, move your data out into removable hdd before cloning.

So the Sammy 640 pro I got had a data migration tool. That helped with the cloning and I'm now fully running ssd for boot. Only issue was that I had to perform a repair post clone due to kissing / corrupted boot partition.

That's why I always recommend a fresh install. I think it is a good opportunity to do so, and for you to see how fast a fresh install takes.

Anyway, hope the Intel G2 still runs well my friend? It is a great SSD, tho very pricey back then.

Yes, it is still running fine in my Fujitsu SH530 laptop. Convert the dvd writer into 1TB HDD with a HDD/SSD caddy.

With Plextor M5Pro read/write at such speed 5xx/3xx mb/s, setting up Win 8 takes less than 10 mins.

Anyway, hope the Intel G2 still runs well my friend? It is a great SSD, tho very pricey back then.
