R9 290 has similar performance to gtx970 so no need to change yet. Let the hardworking cpu and mobo retire and withdraw their cpf.

I am on a amd fx6100+sabretooth fx 990, 2x8gb ram. GPU is a r9 290 windforce OC. Fps is painful even at very low for everything. What do i need to change to remove the bottleneck?

Sent from Xiaomi MI 5S using GAGT
How painful is painful?

Ran some tests with PUBG. 1060 ought to be similar to a GTX970

I7-4790 with GTX1060
Medium
40-50 at native res 3840x1080 144hz
>60fps @ 1920x1080 144hz

High =
40 - 45 @3840x1080 144hz
avg 50-60fps @ 1920x1080 144hz

1060 performance is closer to the 980 than the 970. thats why its the best value gpu for 1080p gaming.

LOl. Thats a feature called "PUBG Handicap" :p

Change system...

not exactly helpful advice.
his fx 6100 is struggling hard. how much budget do u have? if its fairly low u can go ryzen 3/i3 8100. going for i5 8400 will be very good for the next 5 years though

My advice is as clear as what i wrote which is to change the system insted of trouble shooting

CPU Bottleneck
FX6100 5415 Passmark = Below I5-4460 / i3-6300 / i3-7100
Getting a used I7 / I5 4th / 6th / 7th gen ought to solve the issue easily within affordable means.
4th gen to reuse rams
6th gen if wnat to use DDR4

Graphic Card = R9 290
It is Known PUBG currently is not optimised for AMD Radeons.
Either live with it change it.

its like having a monitor with Freesync while your GPU only has GSync. Which do you value more and what when how is the end goal.

So i am going with the game ( PUBG ) as the priority here.
It is easier to change the system and enjoy the game earlier than to wait for a fix which will still be bottlenecked and has no ETA.

he clearly has a cpu bottleneck. he doesn't need t o change the entire system. the r9 290 is a very capable gpu even in today's standards. a new cpu will greatly improve his experience.

No. If you even tried to watch those pubg unknown benchmark video the ram usage varies from 6gb to 10gb, not to mention you needs ram for your os too. 16gb minimum.
