Brand New or Second Hand?

if car is new n with the distributor service record, STA report is still ok
but 10mths old ride.... u mean the car less than 1yr old n battery dying? wow

can consider new or almost new car
if $ not an issue, is new car but nowadays some jap cars no longer made in jap (even though these few mths Yen dropped a lot)

Not suprising. Even the registration is new. Car may be sitting in warehouse for sometime. So it depend on the brand.

surprised to see old car depreciates the same as a new car. do you think your new car warranty of 3 or 5 years is entirely free? you are buying it with additional money. perhaps only the first 1 or 3 servicing is entirely free.

maintenance cost of an average car isn't high at all if you are not in the luxury. i only changed tires and battery for my 5 year old car, nothing else. I bought when it was 3 years old. When u choose ur own maintence, u don't pay those hiked up prices that AD charges you. you can choose the tyres within your range, parts within your range, and WS within ur likes.

never trust additional services "extended warranty" or other "addon" services in Singapore. it is costly.

so it's always "used" for me, unless the coe is like 10K? lol.

As some has pointed out, the correct way is to calculate depreciation + other costs.
Since the main difference of old cars vs new cars is maintenance & repair, if the depreciation is similar or less than $2k/yr, then I think it is not worth it.

i will look at COE also
if second hand but COE like 10k that kind n the car selling according to market depreciation, i wont buy. later wana sell or scrap, 10k is 1k only per yr

WS will ask you to change everything. i don't think you must necessarily change all these. have you been to other countries? their crap cars run forever without most of your mentioned changes. if you polish your car like a gem, spend all you want. to me, if not stopping it from running, it's a utility i throw it away after 5 years and keep the cash.

The repair comes from year 5 onwards. So later on will just kenna each slowly slowly. Sometimes, nothing break down though.

If you have 1.5k spare monthly, you can afford liao.

If you are wise financially, you will have to consider future big purchase like house et.

Because the 170 hp models are using a 6 speed wet DQ 250 gearbox. The possibility of problems like those encountered by the 7 speed dry DQ 200 gearbox is very much remote.

Car buyers here tend to treat their cars like babies. A minor irritation here and there must be repaired. The truth is, cars are built much more stronger and durable than you think. Manage it properly then u can save lots more with a used car than a new one. Most of the loss are from depreciation.

What about renting a car, for short periods. For example, I go to work Mondays to Fridays on MRT. No expenses on car. Then rent a car on weekends for 2 days.

Leasing or renting for one or two years will still have the car sit in parking lot most of the time, when I'm working in the office or resting at home.

Considering just spending abit more on taxi over the weekends, eg call cab?
Thou you may not have much control even call for cab during peak hours but think it will be more reasonable comparing to rental cars ba unless you have plan to be out for both weekends to several places?

best if you know people who are doing car sales.
just assume all odometers are tampered before, even if the dealer didn't tamper with it, doesn't mean the previous dealer didn't. anyway most impt is that the car is kept in good condition.
