Don't really see much effect of the tariffs on Singapore.
Mainly because our exports to USA is not exactly mind blowing.
What in Singapore is made in Singapore, and exported to USA?
Please don't tell me prima taste ready made pastes hor.
Ok, so now lets use prima taste packs as an export to USA, it will cost Americans 10% more to buy than previously before, because of the tariffs.
Trump's move are really done to protect their country's interest, mainly to spur industries to spout up again at home, instead of buying from overseas.

Now back to the effects on Singapore,
If you look at the rates of tariffs imposed on other ASEAN powerhouses for manufacturing, they are much higher than Singapore.
These overseas industries might now look at packaging their goods through Singapore, and export to the USA instead as a loophole, considering the lower tariff rates.
So indirectly, Singapore might benefit from these new US tariff policies in the long run.
singapore's exports to the USA was worth US$45 billion in 2023

Actually if everyone increase 10% baseline, its just self inflicted inflation for US.
Tariffs work when one country is higher than another.
Tonight can short US markets liao. Huat ah!!!
Yes if all import has tariff, it make no difference, by the way the importer will most likely pass the cost to consumer since the tariff is possibly higher than the profit margin.

There are only 2 things Singapore could have done to avoid getting tariffed...... (1) is.... get wiped off this world .
Cos he tariff imports from all countries in the world
(2) beat Canada to becoming the 51 state of USA
there is a 3rd thing.

Our 6.8 or something billion budget surplus you think free one

Is steal from US in the first place
Singapore has a trade deficit against the U.S. not a trade surplus. This means SG imports more from U.S. than the other way around.

Even islands inhabited only by penguins such as Heard and McDonald Islands also get 10% tariff. Singapore is already the lowest possible tariff tier liao.

Without COO USA not stupid.

Yah sure they very smart and no need Trump to now fix huge-negative-balance-of-payment issues, huge-debt-while-money-goes-out-to-ungrateful-countries issues, fetanyl-going-into-USA issues, chips-finding-their-way-to-China issues, US-companies-avoiding-tax issues etc.

In every crisis, there is an opportunity. Since we only kenna 10%, we can attract factories to setup and benefit from it. We can also assist businesses slammed with higher tariff to shift to locations with lower tariff.
Needs to balance the higher amount of export to us with higher import to avoid attract increase in reciprocal tariff.
