ISTANBUL: A Turkish warplane shot down a jet near the Turkish-Syrian border on Tuesday after it violated Turkish airspace, according to a military official.
The official said a Turkish F16S shot down a jet, but the nationality of that aircraft was unclear. The official confirmed the downed jet was warned before being shot down.
A plane exploded in the air and the fireball fell on a Turkmen mountain on the Syrian side of the border, CNN-Turk and NTV televisions reported.
A Turkish government official told AFP: "We are tying to identify the nationality of the plane."
