My current table top from ikea is dark brown. All my previous tables have been brown or black. I am thinking for changing just the table top to white gloss as it looks nicer and makes my room look less dull and brightens it.

My main concerns are that, white table might get yellowish in time or markings/scars/scratches can be easily caused and become very obvious on a white table as compared to brown by for example when placing water bottle/cups on table or heavy objects like full tower pc on table.

Is it true that dusts are less obvious on white tables? Obvious layers dust always appear on my table just after cleaning in 1 or 2 days time. Its very annoying.

I have never used white table top before, can anyone who has used both advice?

Dust on any platform also visible, won't vary too much. Currently using ikea tempered glass top and only recently (after 4 years) I saw a few scratches on the glass. Probably due to a sharp metal object I have on it. Other than that it's all good. End of the day it won't differ much. Still the same color...

What about stains? Got sample photo how dust looks like on a white table with dust? [Tried googling for white table top with dust but cant find:s13:]
Mine looks like this:
No flash

With FLASH

My current is this: [LINNMON Table top, black-brown]

if you want the most dust "resistant" colour, it is probably grey/silver.

In general, most white furniture seems to yellow to a certain extent. YMMV.

Have a white desk. Dust can be obvious, tho not as obvious as in your photo after 1-2 days. If that's just 1-2 days in your area, I think no matter what table will also look bad. Unless you keep windows closed most of the time to reduce dust coming in + use air purifier.

Black hair ends up being way more obvious on white (esp if you have a fan blowing at you from the back). Watermarks can also appear if you don't clean up after your cups or use a coaster. Not exactly maintenance-free, if that's what you're looking for.

What colour is your floor? When you go around outside, you can compare black tiles to white tiles. Can try what wacko suggested: gray. Go to any void deck and see if the dust hides well enough :s13:

Thanks for the replies guys, so its not worth the hassle to change? Sounds like white needs more maintenance.

that is a very nice set up you have there. look at it this way, dust is reversible, stain/yellowing is not. you can try using magiclean dry wipe sheets to quickly remove dust, these things clings on to dust very well, rather than push them around.

Anyone got a good computer desk to recommend? Choices like damn limited and I have no idea where to custom one.

I guess i'll be sticking to my old table top then. Might change to grey though. Ikea has that color.

I got mine at ikea, u can customize what kind of size/colour you want for the table top, choose leg colours and type of cabinet attached to it. [see my pic for example]

Here you go. No flash, room light present.

This little spot here has some untouched dust particles and a little water-evaporated spot.

And this shows the lump of particles with a swipe of my finger on the table.

Cool, thanks for the image. Doesn't look as bad a brown table tops though.
