Hi, MDIS offers BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science Awarded by University of Bradford, UK. They have been running this programme in Singapore for the past 7-8 years. It is the only Direct Honours programme in Biomedical Sciences offered in Singapore. Programme can be completed within the period of 3 years. paiseh. PSB has Bio med too, but its degree ( awarded by Uni of western aus if i m not wrong). another one is MDIS, as mentioned below.

Why is it every Sillyporean always talk about money or rather how much money one can make with this degree/diploma? What happened to interest and passion for advancing scientific knowledge?

If the person in that article went into biomed simply for the sake of making money, then she deserve to be in a sorry state. I feel no pity for fools who go into a career they dont like simply because they want to make a quick buck

I have nothing against studying for interest.

But the problem is there are many who don't have much interest in this area but just go into it because they got fooled by the govt's claim that it is the next big thing.

Just warning people before they go in. Better than you go in then realise too late about the reality.

hmmmm. its DPDP.
some ppl may think PSB is better, because UWA is group 8 and recognized uni.

for me, i would go for MDIS, as I can just complete degree in 2.5yrs, while PSB is 4yrs. i consider the duration for the course.

PSB is a PART TIME Bach program. Like all OZ sci degree no direct honors. coming from poly one may get some exemptions thus finishing earlier than 4yrs.

MDIS offered a Full/PART time program. Like all UK programs they are direct honors.

As a working professional & a family man, I can say that almost all my classmates/friends taking part time (degree) courses is for the sake of earning more money then interest & passion for higher knowledge.

We will rather use the time to spend on family building & perform in work rather then interest & passion for higher knowledge.

Those who are hungry for interest & passion for higher knowledge can always go to library, e-learning or short courses rather then long duration (degree) programs that cost a bomb on time & money for poor University administrator & lecturer.

Noted: This comment is not make base on BSc (Hons) in biomedical science but over all (degree) long duration programs that last at least 2 years & above.

well, to be fair there's nothing wrong with these professions.
in fact, if you are ambitious, pharmaceutical sales can be quite a lucrative career.

Although this is an old post, I'm glad I stumbled upon it. Thank you for sharing the link. Because it gave me so much clarity. I'm currently employed in marketing communication position in a pharmaceutical company and have been in this industry for 4 years out of the 10 years I worked in healthcare industry.

I'm thinking to upgrade myself with a Degree in Biomedical Sciences, because I developed some interest in the field after I encountered Ganoderma lucidum (Lingzhi in Chinese, Reishi in Japanese) and its immense benefit on the immune system on my own (not part of my full-time job). I'm keen to learn more about the human body and cells, in particular immunology.

I'd agree that you don't need to have a Bioscience degree to work in this industry, since I was hired on my Degree in Business Management from SMU. However, what I find increasingly challenging was how to move into a space where it allows me to interact with the doctors and/or patients and share and learn knowledge of medical interest. And my current position doesn't allow me to do so and I felt limited what I could do.

Since I'm single in my mid-30s, it is even more paramount to ensure that I could stay employed or at least employable even in the later years of my life and I'm not sure if what I'm doing now, would allow me to progress in my career in the current company, which I'd like to stay and contribute if possible.

Before discovering this space, I was contemplating between studying part-time for Biomedical Sciences (MDIS one) and TCM (from Singapore College of Traditional Chinese Medicine). (they sure cost a bomb! I'm not sure how I could do it without working and getting some income to finance it. Hence, the part-time decision).

Now that I get a better ground of reality from reading the link. It's clear where I should head.

but there are more than 20 hospitals in Singapore,so the more research positions for biomedical is opened?
