BSOD (Please Help)

Hello pros,

Would need some help to solve my system's bsod.

Last night my went into

Last night my mornitor screen froze and have buzzing sound from my mornitor's speakers when playing game.

After waiting awhile bsod: whea_uncorrectable_error pops up

After resetting, the same bsod still pops up when I watch YouTube than it went into a loop. Often cannot even boot into windows 10.

Tried unplug the gpu and used on board graphics, same results.

System is as in the right >

Crucial Ballistix sport LT ddr4 ram 2400mhz


I overclocked before. Have since set profile back to "default" in bios to undo overclocking.

System assembled 2016 dec. Please help me out, help is very much appreciated.

This is hardware error. It is caused by either Win 10 or hardware failure.

Assuming Win 10, try (1) restoring to an earlier system image if you have saved one; (2) update Win 10; or (3) reset Win 10 to its factory image.

You can also try updating GPU drivers.

If hardware failure, then you have to do the usual trouble-shooting to pin-point the faulty component.

I can't use the restore to earlier system image, although there are earlier saved ones (the auto saved ones after windows critical updates). It says that windows cannot restore to previous state / error restoring to previous state.

Have used the "reset system" function of windows 10, updated gpu driver and windows 10. It worked for awhile than the same problem came back again.

It got worst this time, system bsod when I try to "reset system" again than I got error "resetting system" since.

Now can neither reset system nor restore to previous state..

Tonight maybe try use USB windows 10 installer see able to fresh install windows 10..

Screen freezing and buzzing noise from monitor speakers also could be driver or/and hardware problem too?

Psps, what are the usual trouble-shooting procedures? Other than testing the rams dim by dim, slot by slot.

What settings did you run your CPU at in BIOS?

BIOS factory settings also gives WHEA?

WHEA can also come from degraded overclocked CPU. At the settings you were running at, can try drop maybe 200mhz to see if it stabilises. But I'm guessing RAM issue or degraded CPU.

Yes boss, at bios default settings it still gives WHEA.

Or I have to try downclocking from default?

Try it also, to rule out the cpu fault.

To clarify, maybe BIOS defaults + underclock
(probably if the CPU's stock VID table doesn't run the chip is a good enough indicator).

For additional testing maybe try manual fixed voltage at a hard to miss frequency + volt
(maybe 1.25V, 4GHz).

See if still fail.

Think I corrupted windows by resetting once I see the bsod.

Overall at stock settings where CPU is using its default VID to scale frequency and voltage it still fails, its badly degraded & defective liao.

Can also download intel processor diagnostics tool from intel downloadcenter for testing the cpu.

Oh dear.. if like need to replace CPU liao, don't think intel accept rma after overclocking.

System only 6 months old and used lightly, CPU so fast degraded.

Have u looked at the minidump and see what is the offending hw?

The bsod was solved once I downclock the frequency by about 500mhz. (By Adjusting bclk) others all auto, turbo boost enabled. States "passed" on intelprocessor diagnostic tool.

Bsod appears again when I set the bios to default / auto. Cannot load into windows.

Currently set to 4ghz at 1.25v (by changing multipler) disabled turbo boost. Bclk, vcore manually keyed. Able to boot into windows. States passed on intelprocessor diagnostic tool. But it failed the intelburn test. Will try increase core again.


Is it my CPU have degraded and starting to spoil/ be damaged?

Have u looked at the minidump and see what is the offending hw?

Never tried looking into minidumps before, got to try google and see from there.

So as per post 9, its degraded and the factory calibrated VID tables cannot sustain its stock frequency ranges. Manual voltage (overriding VID) works, but with a higher than required voltage to sustain the 4GHz with that quick test.

How did you use your CPU such that it might have attributed to the degradation? might be worth evaluating.

If you can't even boot up to run IPDT, save the log you already have a case. If Intel asks for XTU screenshots, they have to be provided at stock BIOS settings because they reveal overclocks if any, but you can't boot at default BIOS anyway.

Used at most for 4 hours a day, in an aircon room of 25 degree Celsius.

Most heavy load it handles are games, I also surf net and watch videos too. Intelburn test to stress test the CPU when I initially overclocked @ 1.3v vcore, 4.5ghz iirc.

I think I forgotten to disable turbo mode when I overclocked and left it as it is to run day to day.

During stress testing the highest temperature it went was low 80s.

Could it be because I forgotten to disable turbo boost when I overclocked and continued to use for 6 months that the CPU degraded?

With regards to rma. if I tell them I overclock or under volt the CPU, they won't entertain my rma request liao right?

Or should I just tell them the bsod, cannot boot into windows plus will freeze and bsod again even when able to boot in only?

Normally MCE run the 1 core multiplier on 2, 2 on 3, 3 on 4.

6700k is 42,40,40,40 at stock for from 1 to 4 core multiplier. MCE will probably run the cpu at 42,42,40,40 but there should be sufficient headroom since vcore adaptive/auto scales with VID especially on stock values

But worth figuring nonetheless.
