NAMO AMITUOFO 南无阿弥陀佛

By reciting Namo Amitabha Buddha, we are protected by the Buddhas and Sages.

念佛佛圣护

The Buddha Amitābha says to these bodhisattvas: "If you wish to come and be born in my realm, you must always call me to mind again and again, you must always keep this thought in mind without letting up, and thus you will succeed in coming to be born in my realm."

大家一起来念 “南无阿弥陀佛”.

Believing that karma connects the past, present and future is not a superstition but a truth.

This seeks to convey the message that the joys and pains in this lifetime are connected to deeds done in past lifetimes. Happiness or misfortune in future lives is also connected to one’s good or bad deeds in this lifetime.

─ Excerpted from I Ask the Buddha

' Always Warn ourselves by ourselves '

the Buddha Gotam
This Dhamma Teaching from the Buddha is so profound
Always warn ourselves not to be careless in living our life
Always warn ourselves that death is not the end in the cycle of rebirth
Always warn ourselves that merit is only the provision which is along with us in the long journey
Always warn ourselves Not to do Evils
Always warn ourselves that we need to exit from the cycle of existence and have Nirvana as the destination
Always warn ourselves that the pathway to end the whole suffering is within us at the middle pathway. This is the unique pathway to liberate ourselves from endless suffering through the Buddha's middle way meditation.

The Treasures of the Dhamma

The heart is like food in a serving dish. Mindfulness is like a cover over the dish. If you lack mindfulness, it’s as if you left the dish uncovered: Flies (defilements) are sure to come and land on it and contaminate it with all sorts of germs so that the food becomes toxic and can make you sick. So you always have to be careful to keep the dish covered. Don’t let flies land on it. That way your heart will be clean and pure, and will give rise to wisdom and knowledge.

Always confused between Buddhism and Taoism... :(
A few major differences:
1. Taoism aims to help people to go to heaven; Buddhism is to help people get out of samsara.
2. Taoists pray to deities, and take refuge 皈依 in different deities. Buddhists make offerings to deities because they are Dharma Protectors, but do not make refuge 皈依 in the deities.

In Buddhism, there is no medium ( tangki). Buddhists don't burn incense papers and no talisman.

Waterloo St temple is Buddhist Zhun Ti Pusa ( one of the manifestation of Guan Yin Pusa). Though no burning of incense papers but they have Taoist practice like talisman. Almost no Taoist temples allow to place ashes, thus many Taoists place the ashes in Buddhist temples. Out of compassion, Buddhist temples allow burning of incense papers which cause confusion.

My mother identifies herself as Taoist but she prays primarily to Guan Yin Pusa at our home altar.
My father also identifies himself as Taoist but he believes in Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva's vows.
I identify myself as agnostic because I don't want to be a Buddhist and disparage the Buddha dharma but where necessary I venerate the Lord Buddha and Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva and take refuge in the triple gems.
