Hi

I plan to get a budget phone as my secondary phone. Budget about $250-350. Wonder whether anyone have any recommendation? The A22, 32 is using MediaTek chip so not sure whether good. Initially my plan is to get a used note 9 or 10. Anyone has any recommendation?

Poco X3 Pro? Fits right inside the price bracket, with strong chipset (Snapdragon 860).

Not like 5G will be nationwide anytime soon, so no point paying the "5G tax" for the budget phone.

If size and weight are not a concern, the X3 Pro is also my recommendation.

If they are, go for a 2nd hand Pixel 4a.

What are you looking/trying to do with 2nd phone?
It definitely will affect the choice.

I will not advise mid range phone like A22 and A32 if you are planning to use for a long time. A used s10 and note 10 definitely better and will go with them if I were you. (I still have s10+ as my sub device and it's still a beast)

Pixel 4a or 3a also is a good choice if you like taking pictures with your phone. Plus they have 5 years OS update from google

can consider refurbished korean flagship models

e.g. search qoo10 for lg v50, there are a few shops selling, bought mine from UP System, price now $200plus only. remember to use the qoo10 vouchers

note limitations: single sim, cannot mute camera shutter sound, 2 times shown on lock screen [korean and local time], some korean apps, and some physical marks sometimes

good value-for-money for snapdragon 855

can also consider getting the dual-screen case

Seriously I think budget second phone best choice is a decent condition used iPhone 8 or iPhone X. For Andriod, can get used Oneplus 7 series or pixel 4a. Wouldn’t recommend any other new budget Andriod phones.

Seeing how many iOS 15 features requires A12 Bionic and later even tho even A8 with 2GB RAM devices can run, I wouldn't actually recommend iPhone 8 / X.

Would rather say, wait for iPhone XS/XR prices to fall a bit more (iPhone 12S/13 series coming, existing models will depreciate even more), then get those models.

Or iPhone SE 2nd generation if you don't want face ID. The price now is quite near $350 used.

However, as usual for used phones, need to factor in battery replacements sooner or later. iPhone XS/XR is almost 3 years old now, many devices should be around 80% battery health (or below).

Please factor in the $99 SGD battery replacement from Apple in the cost of the device.

Did you confirm you can bring in a phone as long as the camera is removed?

In my previous unit, it was a zero phone in unit building policy for NSmen. Whether or not there was a camera is irrelevant - phones had to be in the locker outside the building.

If we're caught with a phone after passing through triple doors, it's an immediate charge. One NSman kenna. I understand he tried to blame his boss, so his company got into trouble as well. (This was sometime in 2017/2018).

p30 pro too heavy

it depends

xiaomi local or global set, no issue

xiaomi china set, u have to sideload google play yourself

huawei, depends on model, newer models no longer have google play, due to US sanctions, newer models also use harmony os, something like a forked version of android, some local bank apps were ported over, some were not, u need to check with individual apps

What does everyone think of the 8.7” Tab A7 lite? Since it is a secondary phone, I thought sometimes can use speaker phone to talk. Just wonder whether it will be very sluggish since it is using mediatek chip? Initially I am considering old tab S4 also because it cost around $400. Any thoughts

Personal,y, a used tab S4 for me. Price is around $400 vs $280 for an A7 lite LTE. The specs really cannot fight. S4 is an old flagship but A7 lite is a new entry....Like old Series 7 vs new series 2
