Hi guys, trying to build a cheap budget build for my parents - they mostly use just for office work, surfing, watching videos etc. Key consideration is that they want it to last as long as possible so reliable brands are favoured. Budget around 600-1000 but cheaper the better. Prefer smaller case and solid, high quality PSU. Also not a fan of AMD CPUs. No need graphics card!

Will be re-using a hard drive, but if budget allows a cheap SSD will be even better as it will speed up their use by alot.

Lemme know your suggestions!

recently built something similar, except that it is housed in a mid tower case:

Asrock h81 hds
I3 4160
8gb crucial ddr1600
Transcend ssd370 256gb
Liteon 24x dvdrw
Seasonic s12ii 520w
Silverstone rl04

All for $567

Thanks for the reply! Looks good, just wondering, i recently bought an original windows 7 for my own PC, can i install it on more than 1 computer. Not really sure how the OEM version works.

Would the FSP Hexa Plus 450w also suffice? Nearly 40 bucks cheaper! Though not sure if FSP is more reliable than Seasonic.

Actually this should serve them well already: Zotac Zbox ID18 Plus @ $288, especially if you are adding in another 2.5" HDD.

Otherwise, do consider this:

CPU+MB: Intel Pentium G3240 + ASUS H81I-PLUS @ $169
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 4GB @ $35
SSD: Transcend SSD370S 128GB @ $78
CASE+PSU: In Win BM650 [Black] + Powerman IP-AD180-2 180W Flex ATX [80 Plus Bronze] @ $109
This wonderful chassis can accept 1x standard 5.25" ODD, 1x 3.5" HDD and 1x 2.5" SSD & 1 DUAL-slot low profile graphics card.
All fitting at just 6.8 litres.
This Powerman PSU made by FSP.

Total: $391

Optional:
ODD: Samsung 24X CD/DVD Writer [OEM] @ $21
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit [OEM] @ $33 (G2A)

Buy others from Tradepac, #05-18.

If it's a OEM key then you can only have it at 1 pc only

Thanks for the tips! Think will pass on the zotac as the processor looks really slow. Processor will consider downgrade to the G3258! Unfortunately, probably doing this at PCT so cant go with that PSU + case suggestion, though i think a random 50 buck case + FSP 450w HEXA PLUS would be around the same price too.

Last thing, how does g2a work? I see a windows 8 copy is 30 bucks which seems way cheap but also read reviews on other websites that its not to be trusted. THough i see many people here recommend it as well so :s22:

No need for G3258...

Chassis is distributed by AIMS Resources, so you can buy from other shop than Tradepac, or from distro themselves at SLS level 5. PC Themes also selling Thermaltake SD101 (which is OEM by In Win) with the same interior design and PSU, for additional $30..

This Windows 8.1 will still work legally, so no need to care much just hoot and profit...
