Budget build for father's PC.

Been a real long while since i built a system. I'm more of a laptop person nowadays.
But cos of ** and watching youtube and bit boh liao, want to build a ryzen based mini-itx system for my dad who's in his early 70s (since i can't build a laptop myself haha)
I expect this system to last him until he probably can't use a computer anymore...
Also want my kids to see how a computer system is built.

He's using my old pc which was built like at least 9-10 years ago.
His monitor just konked out and i just bought a 27 inch 1080p one for him (had to use an analog cable! cos the new monitor only had HDMI port and my old mobo only has DVI)


Anything wrong with this build?
And is SLS still the place to buy mobo + CPU combinations?
Or does online purchase via amazon sg/newegg etc have any decent price advantage?

Case: Silverstone SG-13 (70-80 sgd online)
PSU: Likely to use pre-existing or just any brand from usual suspects
CPU + mobo: Ryzen 3200G + GB Aorus 450i Pro Wifi ($320 from Fuwell pricelist)
RAM: DDR2666mhz 16gb Corsair LPX ($135 from Fuwell)
SSD: Likely Silicon Power 1gb NVME M2 (from Amazon SG, $160+)

Yes, it's not super budget cos
i) I want a mini-itx case and that bumps up the cost for mobo and case slightly
ii) M2 NVME SSD

if looking to build no frills small form factor with apu, can look at asrock deskmini a300, is case, mobo, psu and wifi all in one, about $260 on lazada. just need to find cpu, ram and ssd and yes it does support m.2. with the money u saved possible to upgrade ram to 3200mhz kits, and make sure it's 2 sticks. I've not heard of that ssd brand though, do look at more reputable brands like samsung, wd or adata.

haha I'm bit partial to silverstone cos i owned their cases before last time.

Siliconpower been around for 10+ years. Think they do OEM manufacturing for other brands as well.
Recommended by my friend.
And 2000+ reviews with 4.5 star rating on amazon usa. But yes, no warranty locally i guess.

For Ram, amazon sg only has 2400mhz CL16 Corsair vengance pair for $108.

For RAM, you can try to get Corsair LPX 3200/3600Mhz at Lazada for around that price range.

Do you need 1TB NVME for your father? IMHO, i never needed more than 256GB (not a gamer).

Haha That's kinda true. maybe 500gb should be enough.
I guess I'm kinda stuck in the old ages where u need storage + for videos. But actually now everything is on streaming/youtube. haha

Actually i ordered the Siliconpower for myself. And since 6.18 sale is happening tomorrow, i may buy the other stuff first. Yeah maybe i'll drop it to a 500gb.

But if I'm getting the asrock, i have to go sodimm. Though the form factor is definitely a big plus.

If your father is not gaming, you can consider using the Athlon 3000G. It's cheaper than the Ryzen 3200G, uses the same Socket AM4 and good enough for general tasks like YouTube, Microsoft Office and web surfing.

When i search for what is shippable to SG via amazon sg, the lowest end is 3200g (which is local stock given it's next day delivery).

Tried searching this 3000G. doesn't seem locally sold.

why not go with 3400g?

anyway with these zen+ apus, the sweet spot ram speed is 3200mhz cl16. in fact those 2666mhz cl19 kits are probably slower than the 2400mhz cl16 kits. what i would recommend is buying crucial ballistix 3000mhz cl15 kits, then try to oc to 3200mhz.

Honestly, the $ part isn't an issue for me. But if it doesn't benefit his regular usage experience, I probably won't get it.

anyway ive calculated, this set of 2666cl19 ram has a higher latency than the other corsair 2400cl16 kit, so u are actually better off buying those. or perhaps consider 2933/3000mhz kits.
