Budget Computer

Hi Everyone,

[Story]
My 7 years old computer finally died a few weeks back. Since there was no light, no fan, I thought it might be the PSU or 3V battery. Alas, after finally changing both the 3V battery and the PSU, it might actually be the Mobo. Since the Mobo is 7 years old, running the old Q9650 and DDR2 RAM, I think it's time I change a new one instead.
[End of Story]

So, can I get some suggestion to build a new computer with a budget of less than $1000?

I do play some FPS games but seldom do I use it at the highest ultra settings. In case the games matter, I have used the old computer to play Crysis, Diablo 3, Borderlands, GTA 5 (rendering is too poor), Guild Wars 2. Most of the time, the computer is just used for watching BluRay movies by outputting to a TV.

I already have the following components that I wish to reuse if possible:

- PSU: (Brand new -.-" )
- Hard Disk: SSD + a number of HDD storage
- GPU: GTX760 at the moment. Open for upgrade in the future and provided the PSU can support.
- Mouse + Keyboard
- Monitor (Might change cos its still DVI...)
- Speakers
- 2-3 fans -.-"
- OS is not required yet.

So the parts that I need will be:
- Motherboard
- CPU
- RAM
- Casing

I read from the other post that there's the Skylake Chip and to use DDR4 and I really prefer Intel to AMD due to past experience.

Although I already have some of the parts, do let me know if the old parts is incapable of supporting the new hardware and I will get the additional required parts.

I should be going down to Sim Lim either today, tomorrow or on Monday get the machine up and running. Should either be going to TradePac or PCTheme unless someone has a specific suggestion on which shop to go :)

I'm currently using my MSI latop (i7 and a GTX 670M) for both gaming and normal surfing. So if waiting a couple of weeks, months or years can get me better specs/prices, I certainly won't mind.

Any help and suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Is it?

Based on the Sim Lim Square Price List, the cheapest DDR4 RAMs already cost a minimum of $300. As for the Mobo and CPU, I'm not too sure what to look at :/ Then for Casing (Chasis) wise, I'm think it will cost about $100 or so. Not to mention I'm not sure if based on the current standards of Power requirement, is a 650W sufficient...

My MSI laptop was bought roughly 2 years ago when my PC was still working and I wanted to get an upgrade that can play some games (in office :p) and do some programming stuff without lag.

Lol nobody force you to buy Skylake. If you do some research, you will know Haswell platform performs roughly the same and uses DDR3 that saves you alot.

How many SATA HDDs do you wish to bring over? And what is your current SSD capacity?

For the Skylake and DDR4, its probably due to my old PC being the last of the DDR2 generation. I had a really hard time upgrading it a 2-3 years down the road when DDR3 became 4 times cheaper (twice as fast for half the price) than DDR2. I'm assuming that will be the same case a few years down the road? But if the price is really so steep right now, I won't mind getting Haswell or even wait a couple of months for it to drop.

Anyway, the reason for buying it within this few months is cos I have a Windows 7 CD Key that will be eligible for Windows 10 upgrade.

How many SATA HDDs do you wish to bring over? And what is your current SSD capacity?

Hard disk wise, I have a 250GB SSD and 2 HDD (1TB and 2TB) that is used purely for storage and those non-essential programs like Office, PDF etc...

Those fans are of 80/96/120/140mm?

Fans: Those are all 120mm fans.

Wow! that's really more affordable than I expected. Since the prices I obtain is from TradePac, I assume the big difference in price is Amazon?

Hmm.. you can go with moneyface's recommendations at another thread similar to yours - http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/95704087-post10.html

CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-4460 + ASRock B85M Pro4 @ $327
RAM: Crucial DDR3-1600 CL11 8GB @ $60
GPU: GTX760(recycle - use back existing parts)
SSD: (recycle - use back existing parts)
HDD: (recycle - use back existing parts)
ODD: (recycle - use back existing parts)
PSU: Depends on you cos you no state your current PSU - or you can ask for recommendations at the shop
CASE: Sharkoon T28 @ $73 - depends on you too
OS: Use your own.
Monitor: depends on you - (recycle - use back existing parts) or buy new one..

Prices may vary among the shops, to play safe...just drop by PC themes...

Hope it helps.
