Hi all, decided to build a new rig with a budget of about 700-800$. Would like to play games like CS GO, COD etc. Mostly FPS games.

Dont need OS and casing (CM Centurion 5ii) as I have. Also have DVD drive.

Currently it has a 4890GPU, i5-750 CPU LGA1156, Andyson F500m PSU.

Dont think these can be used anymore.. quite old.

Do advise on the build. Thanks gurus!

On the brightside your CPU still rather relevant and fast enough. You should overclock it to squeeze out all its extra juice.

Change GPU and PSU will do. And i will also advise to change your chassis for a brand new look. ;)

hmm. but upon boot up my computer keeps going into an endless loop of restarting.

Not sure what is the issue.

Digged around and found that I have 2 x 500GB hard drives inside. WD Blue and WD Black.

Only 4gb TEAM elite ram. So that's probably gonna be changed as well.

In summary the things I'd like to change are -

CPU (low priority)
GPU
PSU?
RAM
SSD
Mobo..? Using a Gigabyte P55A-UD3P http://www.gigabyte.sg/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3437

Do advise. Thanks guys, appreciated.

Read under "Boot Loop"

Do a memtest of your RAM. Should be having lifetime warranty IIRC, so you can RMA with distro for new one should it be faulty. Refrain from buying new one since prices are still relatively high.

Thanks! Will try out the Mem test tomorrow. The boot loops seem so complicated though, and my computer doesn't emit any sound or indication. :(

Apart from trying to revive the CPU and Mobo, I am actually looking to see if I can build something decent with my budget.

Ah alright, so I guess maybe my CPU can stay. Which means I can invest in RAM, GPU, PSU and maybe even an SSD.

I curently have 2 x 4GB DDR3 Team Elite rams. Can I throw in a piece of 8GB DDR3 to make it 16gb? Any implications with mixing ram?

Also was looking at the trade pac 2 in 1 bundle for GPU + PSU.

How is the POWER COLOR R9 270 2GB TURBO + FSP HEXA + 550W? $300 for that.

You need to solve your boot loop issue before you can do memtest on your RAM..

Anyway with $800, this is what you can get:

CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-4460 + ASRock H81M-HDS R2.0 @ $296
GPU: Powercolor R9-280 3GB TurboDuo @ $265
SSD: Lite-On S900 256GB @ $138
PSU: FSP Aurum S 500W [80 Plus Gold] @ $79* (Lazada Singapore)

Total: $778

Buy others at Tradepac, #05-18.

*Price after Lazada App $10 discount

do you really need 16gb of ram? if your pc is just to play game, what games do you play?

No need for 16GB RAMs.... 8GB is already sufficient.

Thanks both! I'll stick to my current Ram set up then.

The games I'm looking at are COD, CS GO, GTA V.. mostly fps shooters.

EDIT: oops, its 2 x 2GB team elite rams... :/ Can I mix rams? I found another stick installed 4gb kingston. DDR3 as well. 1333mhz

So far there are 2 scenarios -

1.) Change CPU and Mobo Total - $763
-CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-4460 + ASRock H81M-HDS R2.0 @ $296
-POWER COLOR R9 270 2GB TURBO + FSP HEXA + 550W @ $298
- Ram 8gb $94
-SSD Kingston v300 120gb - $75
-2 x 500GD WD HDD (Already have)
-Windows 7 64bit (already have)
-Optical storage (Already have)
-Casing (Centurion 5ii already have)

2.) CPU and Mobo remains Total - $467
-POWER COLOR R9 270 2GB TURBO + FSP HEXA + 550W @ $298
- Ram 8gb $94
-SSD Kingston v300 120gb - $75

Just a question - is my Andyson F500m able to support the newer GPUs today? Like R9 270/280.

Already provide you the most VOM selections yet you still want to make your own choice. :s22:

120GB will not be enough to install all your games. Besides, Kingston SSD V300 is total crap.
R9-280 is just $35 more than R9-270.
FSP Hexa+ is a step down from your Andyson F500M.

Eh? I thought my options were quite closely based off yours. So I assume andyson f500m can support r9 280? Thanks for your input!

Yep but in any case i wouldn't advise to use an out-of-warranty, old PSU for expensive new parts.
