Is Dell G7 the best budget gaming laptop?

Looking for a budget gaming laptop but preferably in mainstream big brands like Asus, Dell,

and not "gaming" brands like MSI, Gigabyte, Razor etc.

Note that i do not want specifically a gaming series laptop like "alienware", "ROG", "predator" , legion and neither am i looking for known gaming brands like aftershock, msi, razorblade etc.

What i am looking for is still mainstream brands like Dell, Asus, HP etc that have top performance laptop with budget gaming like Dell G3, G7, asus F series etc and more. And among these laptops and more budget gaming laptops is dell G7 the best?

dell g7 is still considered a specific gaming series laptop....though not as strong as their alienware series

if you want everyday performance + some light gaming u should go for dell XPS

no idea why u insist on g7 particularly. seems like you have an answer in mind alr

So in your opinion which is the best for that range

Either G7 or Lenovo Y530/540. Acer is good too. Avoid Asus any series at all costs. Their budget gaming laptop build quality is pure trash. Full of QC issues and bad customer svc.

In this category nth rlly beats the G7 tbh. Good build quality and performance, and Dell's cust svc has been known to be industry-leading. There's no such thing as 'light' laptop in this category FYI. All the budget gaming laptops are heavy af.

at this price range i think y530 > Dell g7, especially if you're a student (or u have someone in the family with a student pass)

you can get a gtx1060 for as low as 1.5k

weight-wise, the weight of y530 is 2.3kg, compared to g7 2.9kg.

battery life-wise, about the same, dell slightly better but only marginal

aesthetically (if it matters), y530 has a very thin bezel

durability-wise, comes with 3-years on-site warranty by lenovo (i think Dell is 1 year on-site)

There is no 'best'. Every budget machine cuts corners in its own way. Maybe this machine is very hot, or maybe it runs very loud under load, maybe got power throttle, who knows.

Main standout of the G7 is the performance due to its 1060 max Q which is not found in other budget machines.

But that is only when you limit your scope and ignore gaming brands and only compare with other 1050ti devices. the moment you include gaming brands, there's a lot of laptops out there with a full 1060

The latest Lenovo Legion laptop does not have any gaming flair to it. If business/professional aesthetics is a concern, you should take a look at reviews of the Y530 before washing the model down the drain.

IMO, the Y530 looks more professional than a Dell G7, at less cost, less weight, and depending on specification, better performance.

Seems like TS is trying to get us to convince him that his choice of G7 is the best.

yeah...he already has an answer in mind but he's just seeking reassurance

not sure why he wants to draw the line between gaming series laptop (e.g. Alienware) and pseudo-gaming series laptops (e.g. Dell G7)

but that said, i don't think g7 is the "best budget gaming laptop" considering the price

to be honest even if not low-key suggesting G7 already, the whole notion of "top performance laptop with budget gaming" is a contradictory request. Top Performance and Budget Gaming are mutually exclusive.

In the gaming laptop world you cannot have top performance if you're on a small budget. This is not like the smartphone market where you can have a OnePlus or Pocophone that is packing the same Snapdragon 845 as a big brand flagship. A top tier flagship smartphone processor is far more mainstream (hence potential for cheaper offerings) than even a mid-tier gaming GPU (1060, 1050ti).

Budget gaming is actually easy to achieve, just buy a non gaming laptop and run your game on 720p at low settings. I did that in my uni days on an old Acer Aspire and it worked just fine. Any consumer laptop can be a budget gaming laptop if you set your settings (and expectations) low enough. And that way you can probably save 900-1000 bucks by getting something cheaper than a Dell G7.

If talking about aesthetics, i.e. dont want the flashy gaming look, Aftershock's MX line (not the high end line) still retain the understated look. Something like the MX-15 Pro is close to the G7 price while having a full laptop 1060 and not Max Q

nitro series should still be classified under gaming product line for Acer

the price tag wouldnt really tell the whole story. macbooks cost as much as many gaming laptops as well but are quite regarded as mainstream consumer products now
