Budget Gaming Rig 1.5k

Hey guys, I'm planning to build a budget gaming rig for 1.5k and I would appreciate it if you gave me your feedback on the rig I've planned out so far!


Motherboard + CPU: Gigabyte Z77-D3Sh + i5 3570K $442 (Tradepac)
Ram: (Corsair Vengeance 1600MHZ (4GB x 2) $95 PC Themes)
Storage: (128gb Sandisk Ultra PLus 128GB SSD PC Themes), Seagate 1TB SATA 3 (Tradepac) $139 + 80
GPU: (Sapphire 7870 2GB DDR3 O.C. $365 PC Themes)
PSU: (Silverstone 700W $119 PC Themes)
OS: Microsoft Home Premium 64-bit $115 (Tradepac)
Casing: Corsair 300R $119 (PC Themes)
Total: $1474

Any suggestions are more than welcome!

Gonna OC? If not no needa get CPU ending with k, 3470 will suffice. Why do you need 700W?

Yup gonna overclock. Im planning to get 700W so that in the future, if I decide to upgrade some components, the amount of power is sufficient and I don't need to get a new psu

haswell k series damn cui, disable too many cpu features, TSM TXT ect all disabled. furthermore OC also cannot OC very much due to heat issues and high voltages required for small increases in clock compared to ivy bridge -> need very powerful cooling that u never budget for.

suggest 4570 or 4670 instead. 4770 only if you ever intend to touch 3dsmax / visual studio / video encode / unzip files allot

If you get the 4570, theres enough money saved to get a Sapphire 7950 instead. ($419 @ pcthemes)

If I were you I'll get H100i, since you gonna OC and get a better GPU.

Alright, after thinking about it, I don't think i'll be using my computer for anything that puts a load on the processor as i'll be mainly using this computer for gaming and leisure activities and nothing too intensive. I'll be sticking to the i5 3570.

Total: $ 1406

Since you not gonna OC. Downgrade your MOBO and CPU and use that budget on GPU. 3470 and 3570 not that much difference

Why not go for Haswell CPU? IB cpu will be obsolete soon and finding a replacement mobo in the future might be a bit of challenge.

But do we really need Haswell for a gaming rig? The price seem pretty crazy right now. For me, I don't plan to upgrade for as long as I don't have need to.

Current i5 non-k cpu prices with mobo,
i5-4430 & Asrock B85M Pro 4 @ $352
i5-4430 & MSI B85M-G43 @ $353

I don't think the price difference is a lot. But still, it is your call to prefer to go for newer tech or IB that is going to be obsolete.

Yup micro-ATX. Can't seem to find any price list with MSI B85-G43 mobo.
