Hi, I am looking for a simple laptop mainly for web surfing and do not mind it being refurbished. My only criteria is that is supports USB C charging plus HDMI out via those USB C hub from ugreen/vention.

I am looking at T470s and X1 but am not sure how to confirm if they can support the USB charging and HDMI out via the USB C port. Anyone can shed some light on this? Looks like there is USB C port on the T470S. If these 2 doesn't support, what is the next lowest priced laptop to fit my criteria? Is it the T490?

Thanks!

don’t think all these old models support usb-c hub/docking. In fact their usb-c port may not even be used to charge laptop.
U need to look for more recent models .
Aka, post the name change to t14/t14s

IMHO.
If surf net only, can consider Lenovo ChromeBook. Only need to verify the HDMI part.

USB-C is quite a wide set of standards. USB-C for charging could be of more recent laptop versions that are more pricey.

You might be better off upgrading an older laptop battery to a higher Wh capacity and selecting a low-power processor e.g. i3 or i5 to lengthen battery life.

You can check out my post here about my upgrading of a 2nd-hand laptop: https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...aptop-from-local-or-us.6407825/post-146018585

My total cost is ~$330. After upgrading the RAM to 16 GB it feels very fast for normal work. I have also updated it to WIndows 11 so it feels like a new laptop.

Sorry to hijack but for getting refurbished set, is there a limit how many XXX years a laptop can be considered a refurbished?
is 6-7 years back still acceptable?

The processor and memory will be too slow in 1-2 years and other parts could be prone to breaking down.

Anything less than 4 years is acceptable to me for basic office productivity work or casual use.

depends on many factors
  • your usage requirements
  • your tech/repair ability
  • device upgradability [e.g. some old models, still have removable battery, so can rescue]
