Hi guys...my pc died last week, i need to get a new rig...

The things that i will be doing with it will be playing football manager 2012/13 and also the upcoming football manager 2014, and also mmorpg games like ragnarok, watching live streaming football (This is the most important), if possible I hope the rig can also be able to play battlefield (no need high setting), and able to multi task, now i'm using maxonline broadband for my internet connection which is 50mbps but the speed is very slow as my modem is in the living room and my pc is in the bedroom and its using wireless to get internet connection, in between also got wall, so always have difficulty watching live streaming football, need to solve this problem.

My current router from pc is about 4metres away, receive only 1 bar of wifi signal, very weak, internet speed test done is always about 3mbps of download speed and 1.2mbps upload speed... totally crap... and there is a zig zag wall...

Budget will be around $800 plus minus abit no problem, would not mind paying abit more for better stuffs... i need everything excluding monitor, speaker, mouse and keyboard which i already have...and also the chassis cannot be more than 18.5 inch in height and need the usb ports to be at the front, preferably with 2 to 4 usb ports if possible.

This are the items that i'm currently using...

modem cum router - cisco dpc 3925 from starhub

wireless adapter - linksys WUSB 100

speaker - altec lansing 120i

monitor - samsung syncmaster 953bw

I will need assembling... If can i wish to get my rig from somewhere trustworthy like pc themes, although i know tradepac is cheaper, but because I don't know how to assemble myself...u guys see wat can be done...

I have some questions marked in their respective colours:

Which iteration of BattleField? 1,2 3 or 4?

Does that bedroom has a SCV certified cable point?

With tight budget just go to Tradepac. Diy yourself. Best way is learn how to build one. I started out using youtube. There are tons of videos out there. Go learn and build one. Build one and get the experience out of it. It aint difficult also.

Lastly ask SH technician to come to your place and do a test on the certified SH cable point. I have fk them up big time till i got them to reroute the cabling from outside till inside my house. Replace the chiong T joint to SH certified Splitter. And finally i got my Cable at 24mbps. Cause before that i was receiving 1-3mbps using LAN cable. Although i at home also got 150mbps fibre from M1, but im waiting for the SH contract to end and i will terminate for good.

Anyway for $800

Asrock B75m DGS + i5-3350p ~ $271
Kingston Value Ram 4gb ~ $53
Hitachi Deskstar 500gb ~ $60
Leadtek GTX650ti 1gb ~ $169
Coolermaster 311 + FSP Hexa 500w ~ $105
Windows 7 Home Premium OEM 64bit ~ $115

Total $773 Buy at tradepac DIY.

Consider homeplugs to overcome the weak signals?

I'm using the stock Singnet Pace router... the signal really quite jialat when need to pass through two walls and I cringe at the ping when I play Dota 2 :s22:

For me, it was either upgrade modem to the atas/jin expensive Asus N56/N66, or using homeplugs. I'm a happy user, pings down to consistent 5ms, download speeds are more stable too.

You can take a look here for a quick overview if you're new to powerline adapters. Just note that you need to plug in directly to wall socket (not through extension or multi plugs), and it'll just simulate a direct connection from router to PC.

TP-Link released a newer model to the PA211 this year. I think can still get a pair ~$55? I got a pair of the PA511 about ~$90. There are models that act as WiFi extenders too, if you're keen on investing for wider wireless coverage in addition to a direct connection to your PC.

Good luck! :D

But you state this "My current router from pc is about 4metres away, ", 4 metres away only?

Modem -> Router -> PC

and FYI,

personally am using 3 10m cable to connect to 3 different PCs in 2 different rooms. Router in living room too. Cable will really help in your gaming latency.

Sorry to Hijack the thread.

I was thinking buying a PC too. Trying to keep the budget within 900 bucks.
Main Wifi router(Starhub Original) is in the Living room. The PC is will be place inside room using the 32inch LED TV.

Want to watch videos, Thinking of subscribing NBA TV from NBA.com, Play games like Dragon Age (Again and Again. LOL), FF XVI online, NBA2K14, FM.

On Hand I got a PC 7850 2Gig. TP link Wifi adaptor.
Without keyboards, Mouse, OS. Able to keep the cost now?
Wanna get a neat Casing too since its in room with limited space.

Not worth it then. Its either you drill a hole through the separating wall (assuming direct LAN connection doesn't cut through common pathway) or you get homeplug which is the best next affordable alternative so far (also assuming the electrical wiring around your house isn't aged).

Thanks for the quick reply.

I doubt I need a SSD for this moment. Using the SSD money can replace with a OS 64 bit? I got no OS, KB and mouse.

I also dont need 1tb that much since Its for gaming mostly. 500gb to save another 20 bucks?

Curious regarding i5 4570? Best price vs speed ?
Regarding the MO, no Diff from giga, MSI or ASrock right?
Just get a basic MO will do right? Not going to do OC.

SSD for - OS (win7hp 64bit 110, win864bit ~120 / Logitech mouse n kb $20)

(Your choice, 500gb @ 60, 1tb @ 80. Make a wise choice!)

(There is 4670 too but the 200Mhz boost you won't feel a difference in gaming at all)

Regarding the MO, no Diff from giga, MSI or ASrock right?
(Got difference, color diff and those SATA ports and all but it doesn't really matter for your build)

Just get a basic MO will do right? Not going to do OC.
(b85 chipset cannot OC, Raid, SLI etc)"

This is a more budget build but as usual I would recommend a 1TB HDD rather than 500GB.
