Hi thanks for your input. Heres my situation actually:

Have a custom comp built 3 years back that died on me yesterday. Signs telling me graphics card (7870 I believe) died but not entirely sure so will be going to SLS to troubleshoot. Computer is already 3 years old (but with light-moderate usage as I was staying in in NS past 2 years)..

So I'm torn as to whether to reuse some parts or not as I'm afraid just replacing GFX card and a few months later another part spoils.

What are some parts for sure can last many years? HDD/SSD/CD Drive/Mobo? TBH if I was just looking to change GFX card what would be a good replacement for a 7870 at a budget? I cannot rmb the exact mobo but PSU should be ~500watts and CPU is one of the older i5s...

Thanks for all the trouble everyone. :)

Edit: Mobo is ASrock B75M-DGS CPU is I5-3470

Just go and get a new gfx with higher resolution.
GTX 950 / 960 should be okay @$250-350

then step by step upgrade it. Don't use up all your money just to get a new Rig.

I believe your old i5 is still usable.
I don't see any reason to change it.

So a good upgrade would be a GTX 950/960?

Alright thanks so much for all the input. :)

Thanks for the input. Will take into consideration definitely.

Even if the other parts are 3 years old?

your fsp raider should still be good. the the r9 280 turboduo for $299 at pcthemes will be a good choice, and a decent upgrade for your system. if choosing nvidia,i recommend the leadtek hurricane gtx 960 at $315 at pcthemes. the r9 280 is the better performer of the 2 so i recommend you get the 280

Any options in the 200$ budget range? GTX 950? If I wanted a AMD card so there would be lesser driver issues what is AMD's counterpart of the GTX 950? I've read online that the 7870 and 950 are quite similar in performance and not much of an upgrade but I'm quite satisfied with my current 7870's performance as I don't play much demanding titles.

pcthemes has an r9 270 turboduo for $209, which is basically just a rebrand of the hd7870 but clock speeds are slightly lower. recommend you get that
