budget traveling

possible to spend less than SGD40 per day, ie $1.2k per month in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines?
worse case include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Brunei

cost includes accommodation, meals, transport etc etc all in
not planning to visit tourist attractions but more to experience the local culture
and to rest and relax, get out of SG for a period of time

where can i find such budget traveling kakis to travel together?
my plan is to travel around SEA countries for 6-8 months continuously, app 1 month in each country
budget less than SGD$10k

wish to gain more of such travel experience, then do the same for eastern europe and south america
and in case you wonder, yes i am planning for my retirement
i limit it at $1.2k per month cos this is my monthly expense in SG

What really do you want to experience?

1 month could be very boring for most places.

cities are for the young and energetic. most of the country sides may not be very safe if you want to experience local culture.

when you are old, it just needs one bad incident to end the life.

get a stranger to go along for 1 mth - 6 mth in such budget and not planning to visit tourist attractions

I think can.. but rather limiting, because accomodations will take up a bulk of your budget.. plus you need to cater travel expenses from country to country, this can be cheap but considering your budget, I am not sure whether is it feasible or not..

What are you planning to do in that one month?

Came across some foreigners doing this for months back when I was solo travelling. While we all stayed in the same dirt-cheap hostel, I spent a lot more time and money on doing, eating and seeing touristy stuff.

If you don't spend much, you will also end up not doing much.

Definitely feasible. Singapore passport is a powerful tool.

As in renting out my hdb so that I can backpack? Not me.

$40 a day was possible 25 years ago when I backpacked to Thailand. 21 days there including a one way flight back cost me less than $700

Oh that could be me after I retire. But I won't likely rent out my home. Still need a base

I heard my neighbours will be selling all their properties and plow into investments and then go travelling. When they come back to Singapore, they plan to stay in service apartment
