budget upgrade build for my current setup

Hi All,

Thanks for the advise so far, currently i have a 5 years old PC (yes i know old, slightly slow, outdated and definitely taking its toll)

Specs of my PC in my profile, some parts not too sure like motherboard and PSU (too worn to see the details).

However after 5 years its time for upgrade do you think a decent build would cost 1k?

was thinking of this build:

Case - using the same fractal design (black one)
Storage - NVME 1TB (220 SGD)
motherboard - B450M motar with wifi (203 SGD)
processor cooler - BeCool ?? (it on my processor already)
Graphics - ZOTAC GTX1650 (not sure if its competable)
Processor - 3700x ryzen 7 (478 SGD)
G Skill - 32GB kit 3200Mhz (265 SGD)

Suggest you hold off until the end of the year.

Ryzen 4000 series will shortly replace Ryzen 3000.

RTX 2000 is already obsolete. Should have RTX 3060 in a few months.

edit: wait for Black Friday and get the RAM and SSD from Amazon.

how much RAM / SSD should i be looking at to buy?

1) like RAM 32GB 3200Mhz is that good enough?
what price should RAM of that spec be?

2) SSD 1TB what price? or do you think 2TB is a worth investment?

Most people are fine with 16GB. Do you find that you are fully using the 32GB you currently have?

DDR4-3200 is quite cheap. S$80+ for 16GB.

2) SSD 1TB what price? or do you think 2TB is a worth investment?

Get WD Black, 1 TB is on sale at Amazon Singapore now and then at S$18X.

As for 2TB, depends on your usage. I don't even touch 20% of my 2 TB NVMe SSD.

how long should i wait for next year?

can start planning mid-Nov, since BF is 27 Nov.

I mean NVMe SSD, no point buying SATA SSD since prices are similar.

You can google the difference in specs between WD Black etc.

Adata SX8200 Pro 1 TB is fine. I'm using the 2 TB version. Price-wise should be similar to WD Black.

With such low requirements, you definitely don't need 32gb.

Just get a 1tb nvme.

Your usage is so basic, you could get a 3000 series Ryzen now (like a 3600 or 3700x) and not worry. Get a decent GPU. 2080, 2080 Super and 2080 Ti are all on fire sale on Carousell.

Well I missed out one impt question, wat resolution u will be using it on haha.

Assume if we are looking at 1080p only u look at RTX 2060 super is way more than enuff. however that being said, currently nvidia only announce their 3070 and above which imo is way overkill if u r gaming for 1080p only so we can only make a judgement call more accurately after they announce their more lower mid tier range of gpu which does not have a date currently.

But in any case the general consensus is at least wait till nvidia release finish their currently announced gpu cos no matter if u buy the 3000s or 2000s after that it is still more worth it then now.

Even with 2 monitors it’s fine? I think my monitor will be 1080p I guess getting a second one but don’t think I need 4K right?

Do you know roughly when the are releasing? Any clue? So getting the 2060 super would be cheaper and last me another 5 years? Cause I only got 1k to blow haha

actually there is no point for TS to wait for 3000 series cards to arrive or for nvidia to finish releasing cards. from what he mention his usage is, really dont know what advantage he will gain if he get a 499usd rtx 3070 when his needs could alr be well served with a current gen rtx or even gtx card.

Agree with you, thats y actually i am suggesting to wait for the 3000s card not to buy them but to buy maybe current 2060 super at a much cheaper. But yeah usually i will also tink no point waiting if u need it just buy but this time since the pending release is so close already might as well wait 1 more month and see how it goes, no harm just waiting for 1 more month.

anyway just answer TS qn, not sure when they releasing but if u can wait just wait 1 more month and see see

Get 2*8gb (16gb) 3200 mhz ram from amazon or newegg, no need 32gb
Drop 3700x to 3600x
The money got from these reductions all go into gpu, 1650 isn't exactly good gpu that will last you for years
With how nvidia gpu are slashing price, you could likely get 2070 or even 2080 2nd hand (half year used)

Thanks for replying I think I will wait until year end or sale to buy like 10.10 or 11.11

But quick question how about the parts which should I look out for and at what price? Because my computer is still functioning but just slow and running 256GB of SSD... so just thinking to upgrade it... but I agree I can wait of course

But now the big issue is what spec and what price to wait for and where
