budget upgrade

hi bro, i like to do a budget upgrade for this unit to extend its life.I intend to change my CPU to a quad core and the GPU,but im not sure if its possible,please advise me.

my budget is <$300

mobo: Biostar G31-m7 TE
CPU: Core 2 duo,E5200
GPU:GT9400
HDD: 250gb
Ram:4gb DDR2
PSU: 450watt
OS:window XP

Can look at second hand market. Your budget can only get you either an i5 or gpu. Can't get you both.

Sigh, the only thing that will really improve performance is getting an SSD. However you are using Window XP so u can forget about it.

I upgraded all the XP/Vista at my home to 64bit Window 8 when it was lanuch and added SSD to it. Felt that was the best budget upgrade ever.

Upgrade to core2quad, get a mid range graphics card and a SSD.

dont need to oc, depending on usage, q6600 oc stock cooler not enough. theres a scythe cooler on sale in garage sales.

else budget 150 for proc and mobo, maybe a decent good i5 mobo bundle or a c2q bundle, and 150 for a gpu, maybe a 7750.
