Budget Upgrade

Hi peeps,

Looking to upgrade my system. Will be reusing casing, PSU, and 500GB hdd. Mainly for video processing and multitasking (eg web browsing, youtube, video editing together).

Potential items as follows (PCT price):

1. CPU - i5 7400 / i5 7500 ($380/$405 w mobo)
2. Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-H110M-DS2
3. GFX - ZOTAC GTX 1050 2GB ($179)
4. RAM - DDR4 2133 8GB x 2 ($85 x 2)
5. SSD - SAMSUNG EVO 750 120GB SSD ($79)

Total $808 / $833, might look at video pro Qoo10 valentine day promo code to see if more savings can be done.

Is there a big difference between i5 7400 and 7500? Also appreciate any other advice. Cheers!

but how heavy is your video processing? and is i5 more than enough for u?

I would say not much different between 7400 vs 7500 (yes i know no claims from me)

but higher clockspeed should benefit more on video processing (though it's more cores and threads is the correct way, but since comparing between the cpu, den go for speed)

The video processing isn't too heavy, mostly 720p 30fps. Have the feeling that my current i3 4160 and the ram are the bottleneck when it comes to multitasking.

Right now contemplating between the following options:

1. Go extra budget: Replace current i3 4160 with i5 4460 ($276) and get 2 x 8GB DDR3 ram ($160) as I'm running 4 x 2gb now. Skip SSD addition. My current Palit GTX 260 seems to be holding well for 7 years. This build perhaps can last 2 years if the gfx doesn't give way.

2. Overhaul as previous post, perhaps last another 4 years before another overhaul/new rig.

Seems like the overhaul makes more sense?
