Hey guys,

Can anyone recommend a USB DAC (powered directly via USB - no wall warts / power cables) that has RCA out?

Budget is 200-300 bucks.

Right off the top of my head i can think of a few:

1) Ifi Idsd nano
2) Schitt Modi

(DSD not necessary )

Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Schiit currently has some Modi B stock (since it's already discontinued) for US$79, or else you can opt for the Modi 2 for US$99.

You can also look at the JDS ODAC RCA for US$169.

If size is not an issue and you're looking for best value, I'll say the Modi B stock is your best bet.

Thanks man.

The Modi can get locally right? Just want a quick plug and play solution for my speaker setup.

E1 carries the Modi 2, but I'm not sure if they still have the Modi 1. Modi, Modi 2 and ODAC are all plug and play.

You can get the ODAC from Treoo if you're still interested.

No problem. Just so happens that I have the ODAC now, and looking to upgrade to the Modi 2 Uber soon.

Right now though, I'm choosing between Magni 2 Uber, Vali and the Asgards 2 amps. The Magni 2 Uber and Asgard 2 both have pre-amp out which I can hook up to my active speakers.

Hmm, come to think of it, I'm looking to upgrade my speakers too! But that, I'm waiting for the Emotiva sale.

Never ending cycle of upgrading :s13::s13:

Now that my headphone rig is more or less stable (for the next couple of months as least lol), I'm looking to put my speaker rig back into action..i have a Topping amp connected to my Tannoy 15" speakers, hence the need for a cheapo usb dac for streaming / flac files =:p
